What's some good designer (casual) menswear?
I'm talking casual stuff, not suits and ties.. I mean summer wear, tees and shorts.
I need a new look. I'm too old for Abercrombie but too young for Tommy Bahama. A lot of jackasses wearing Ed Hardy, Christian Audigier, etc. I don't know if this is a good thing to get into. I need some good fitting (fitted) tees that do work. I got out some old clothes of mine from about 10 years ago- .. doesn't look right on me. I look like I'm going to some highschool football game. Money is no object. Ideas from the 20-30 crowd?

Oh boy... Seriously? On a car forum? Whatever doesn't already have a grease stains.
My xgf worked at Armani Exchange - free clothes worked for me.

LOL, no doubt. Let me see... Old Navy, Levi, free (and not free) t-shirts I've acquired at car shows, the occasional button up short sleave shirt that looks nice but I have no idea who made it (some kid in Singapore I'm sure). Flip flops, though I DID pay $50 for them, they are really nice. I guess I'm not that sophisticated.

Target sells nice stuff.
![]() The most hip I ever got was when my little sister in law worked at Express. Nice stuff, especially when it was 50% off. More mature than the teenie bopper stuff, some of the nicer collared dress shirts that I've owned.

Stop by a Mens Warehouse.
They can cover you from casual to formal. The sales staff are good.

I second the Banana Republic suggestion. Great cut, reasonably priced, and they hold up quite well. Lately I've been in a plain white t-shirt and jeans or cargo khaki mode. No logos, fake pub/surf shop signs, ornate graphics or any of that crap.
One day, when I was mowing the lawn, my 85 year old neighbor commented that I looked like I was from the early 60s with my choice of attire and mower (manual reel cut)

thrice! BR. overpriced but what the heck, the sales chicks are cute. but you better be slender. BR is geared towards thin folks.
what about HR? (is that what it is called? the IKEA of clothing stores)..i havent been in one, but the place is jammed packed.

Hmmm.. yea guys see I need to put off that "I'm in my 20's and fit for my age" vibe not the "I'm in my 40's and wish I could afford to retire early to florida" vibe.
Nat Nast? I'm not Tom Selleck.

I'm about your age and I tend to wear a lot of Patagonia stuff. It is far from cheap but all of the garments have a lifetime warranty and really hold up well. It has kind of an earthy look to it but what I like is that nearly everything can be dual purpose. I work in a business casual environment (I push the causal part as far as I can) and I can go backpacking in the same clothes I wear to work and they perform well in both places.
I like the look of Banana Republic stuff but I think it is overpriced for it's usefulness and durability. |

Ben Sherman, Bananna Republic (agree w/ others on the overpriced comments), Lucky, Armani, Jimi Hendrix (yes, that's a clothing company), Original Penguin, etc. Since money isn't an object, you can go into a botique store and pick these up, or I've had some luck finding these at Nordstrom Rack, TJMaxx or Marshalls. Granted those are hit or miss type stores, but when money is an object...

James Perse for polos and shirts, no contest. He's the hottest designer around and for good reason. Downside is that with great popularity comes ubiquity in NYC and L.A., where you live probably no one has ever heard of him.
Not cheap but just awesome, simple designs that make you wonder why everyone can't make clothes so well and anyone who knows fashion, or even style will recognise his stuff immediately. That other stuff that's been suggested here is nothing but department store crap. (Which I wear at times, don't get me wrong). |

G/F has been hassling me to get some "nice" cloths (80% of my wardrobe is jeans and T-shirts)
After stumbleing around a few malls I found banana republic and bought some stuff there. I'm a little on the "mature" side and felt way out of place at some of the trendy mens stores, but BR seemed more kick back. Express is good too... if you can catch a sale...
