Come on, it's not that bad...
Hugh, What was filming at the the Sepulveda flood control basin a few weeks ago? They set up storage containers and made a huge green set. It looked like they had a miniature of the dam in there, but I never did stop by to investigate...

Compton, actually. Got here at 6 AM and LA Sheriffs were doing no knock raids down the block. Not as bad as I expected. Of course we're in the "good" part of Compton. |

Yeah, parts of it really aren't too bad at all. There are some downright scary parts though. Frankly I think most of North Long Beach is worse.

Whenever I have to survey homes in the ghetto we do them at 7 in the morning.
6 a.m. is not bad in the hood. Wait until all the trouble makers wake up around noonish and start wandering outside. Or try at 8 at night (which I would never dare try) when its getting dark out and everyone is lit. To be honest though, I have more problems surveying out in the country than I do in the hood. Power tripping land owners with shotguns are far worse than gang bangers.

When I hear "Compton" and "Long Beach" I think of great HS basketball. I remember LB Poly playing Mater Dei in the mid-eighties. LBP players all looked like they were thirty and the MD players looked like junior highers.

i broke down at the intersection of Gage and Figuroa when i moved up to the bay area. i had to spend the night on that corner in a penske truck towing a car trailer. i was offered a BJ for some crack. i told the nice lady that i didnt have any crack, but also "no thanks". she said, "but you can buy some crack from that guy." the salesman ran over....everyone was pretty cool, i didnt get mugged, but i was scared. i had a cold steel knife, stabbed into the dash, and one eye opened the entire night.
