Not sure, you may have to pick a different area code.

I had plenty available numbers in my area code.

I think the point is that these days, when using cell phones, it's all the same, so it doesn't matter.

I would throw my cell phone in a fire right then and there.
I've got that.

Android OS, huge open source software market, touchscreen and full keyboard, gvoice, gtalk, google maps, google, google, google. You can get the phone unlocked and it will run on T-Mobile or ATT. There is a way to get it to work via wifi without a sim, I think. I've got root access to the Android OS on mine which gives me extra capabilities over the non-rooted versions.

There are even Netbooks that are coming out with Android installed, I believe.

Ha, and you thought that you'd be getting away from the Microsoft tax. Sorry -- Acer chairman JT Wang says that the first Android netbooks will ship with Windows in dual-boot configurations. While your first reaction might be to call JT a Microsoft patsy, he's not, it's smart to hedge, actually, since Android is unproven as a netbook OS and Wal-mart consumers usually don't like being surprised by computers that don't work like the ol' home computer. Besides, these Android netbooks seem to be targeting carriers as resellers so you'll like get a big fat discount when you take one home on contract. Happy?

In fact, market research firm Ovum recently predicted that Android-powered Netbooks will emerge in 2009, as manufacturers attempt to drive the price of Netbooks to around $200 or less.

Hewlett-Packard is also reportedly considering using Android on its low-cost Netbooks, though an executive declined to say for certain whether HP plans to sell Android devices. Asustek Computer has already said it is considering using Android, and Dell is also considering the software for its upcoming smartphone.

Got my GV invite today. After reading all the follow-up here, don't know if I'll use it. Like said earlier, it would be better if I could put this on one of my current numbers rather than creating a new number.

I like the idea of the transcribed voicemails. I'm going to request an invite.

I've entirely stopped answering my landline at work, because so many of the calls are not productive. I must have several hundred voicemails piled up there, or whatever the max storage is. If I could just scan a list of my daily voicemails and a transcription of the first couple of seconds, I could figure out which of the 30 to 50 I should listen to. I think I can set up my landline to auto-forward to a Google Voice phone number.

The feature of being reachable no matter what phone I'm at, that is of no interest to me. In fact I don't want most people to have my cellphone.
