So the daughter finally has her first job. What she claim? My CPA says Single 0. Its been so long since I was a W-2 employee I haven't a clue. Just looking for more points of view. Thanks!

I'd go w/ "0" for now, she can always change later.

If zero, the she's definitely giving the gov't. an interest-free loan for the year. I used to go with five when I was single and had a lot of mortgage interest to write off. Usually owed the feds the same amount I got back from the state.

Starts at appx. 24K per year, plus commissions, maybe 30K??

CA may do IOUs again next year on tax refunds if they repeat this years budget mess. I'd rather put some aside and owe them then the other way around. If commissions, get your CPA to look at mileage, phone other expenses that she may not get reimbursed.

Presuming she is not able to itemize deductions, 1 to 3 is probable. Not sure if her income level will allow her to deduct job hunting expenses. Here's the form, you can calculate your exemptions.

She should claim herself, if nothing else. Make sure your CPA is also hip to the fact that she'll be claiming herself this year. You'll be losing that exemption this year. I don't do personal tax.
