Vitamin D Deficiency?

Widespread vitamin D deficiency in US children? Interesting. I must look into his for my kids. Not obese or heavy TV/videogame use and do drink milk, though.

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-08/04/content_11823512.htm

My doc said I had vitamin D deficiency, this last April. I was taking prescription vit D for awhile Something like 18000 IU, I vaguely recall. She said it was not uncommon among olive- or darker-skinned people after a Portland winter.

You absorb vitamin D from the sun. Kids are deficient because they don't go outside. You only need like 10 min. a day. It is not alot of sun. My sister lived in Seattle when she had a baby. Dr. had her give Vitamin D Supplement to baby until summer. Pretty common there.

I take 50,000 IU three times a week. I had an episode three years ago that landed me in the hospital. It was linked back to a vitamin D deficiency.

I read an article a while back comparing the vitamin D from pills vs the sun. Vitamin D from the sun was so far above that from pills it makes you wonder why doctors aren't telling us to go outside.

No you don't. You absorb it from what you eat. UV light converts it to the active form. Still works on cloudy days, just not as fast.

You just need a UV light over the dinner table then.
