Squeaky Fromme is getting out

Squeaky Fromme is getting out of federal prison for pointing a loaded gun at POTUS Gerald Ford in Sacramento back in 1975, I was 11, and had happened to be down there a week or two before.

Release was some place in Fort Worth. That Charlie sure could round up some whacky beeyotches.

That's a shame, just goes to show you that there is no real justice anymore. Car theives really get me going, there was a day when if you stole a man's ride they'd get the rope.

Yeah, she's old, but also, quite the whacko. She needs to stay locked up. Is she now going to a state or county facility. Or is she now free?

Lynette gets all the press while poor ole' Sarah Jane Moore slips silently into oblivion...

'Squeaky' Fromme; Sarah Jane Moore; 34 Years Later

September 1975. Seems like only yesterday, but its been nearly 34 years in fact since a series of bizarre, potentially tragic events rocked Northern California, Sacramento and San Francisco.

On Sept. 5th of that year in Sacramento, just outside the park near the state capitol, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, armed with a .45 Colt semi-automatic pistol, pointed the gun at President Gerald Ford.

The pistol's magazine was loaded with four rounds, but none were in the firing chamber. She was immediately restrained by Secret Service agents, all the while yelling "the gun did not go off."

Fromme, now 60, a Manson family leader, served 34 years in state prison and is scheduled to be released on parole, August 16.

Just seventeen days later in SF, outside the St. Francis hotel, Sarah Jane Moore fired a shot from a .34 caliber pistol at President Ford. The bullet missed the President because a bystander, Oliver Sipple, grabbed Moore's arm and then pulled her to the ground, using his hand to keep the pistol from firing a second time.

Moore, 77, served 32 years in prison, and in 2007, was released on parole.

Lost in those two singular events was the capture of Patty Hearst, who was arrested in a SF home on Sept. 20, 1975, along with SLA members, Bill and Emily Harris.

".34 caliber pistol "

Huh. Anyone know more about this .34 caliber pistol? I have seen some references to extremely old 'boot guns' in .34. What was it?

Don't believe everything you read in the press...especially something written by a hippie from San Francisco:

Attempted assassination of Gerald Ford

Moore had been evaluated by the Secret Service earlier in 1975, but that organization had decided that she presented no danger to the President. She had been picked up by police on an illegal handgun charge the day before the Ford incident, but she was released from arrest. The police confiscated her .44 caliber pistol and 113 rounds of pistol ammunition.

Moore was about 40 feet away from President Ford when she fired a single shot at him with a different pistol, a .38 caliber revolver. That bullet missed the President because bystander Oliver Sipple grabbed Moore's arm and then pulled her to the ground, using his hand to keep the pistol from firing a second time. Sipple said at the time: "I saw [her gun] pointed out there and I grabbed for it. [...] I lunged and grabbed the woman's arm and the gun went off." The single shot which Moore did fire from her .38 caliber revolver ricocheted off the entrance to the hotel and it slightly injured a bystander.

it's cheaper to dump her on the streets

plenty o' whackos wandering qround - I mean - hey - look at PARF...

as long as she is not a danger any longer then I'm fine with it -- lower taxes

BUT how can we be SURE she is no longer a danger ???
