Angry Well my new (to me) BMW 525 has a major blindspot on the left rear...

...and a scratched rear door/fender thanks to a lane change while rushing to the courthouse.

What a foching summer I'm having.

Did you set your mirrors correctly?

For driver side put left side of your head against the drivers window and move mirror out until rear of your car disappears then bring it back a bit so you can just see the rear.

For passenger side move your head to the center of the car and do the same adjustment.

Eliminates a ton of blind spots when you do this.

I found that most BMW's have large blind spots due to the huge B-pillers. I also like knowing that huge B-piller is there to protect me.

I sort of agree with SM, but I adjust my mirrors and have not found a vehicle with a blind spot yet. You do not need to see the back of your car in the mirror.

Adjust them so the inside (carside) of the mirror is pointing parallel along your car on both sides and the angle out of the mirror covers the blind spots. It's hard to describe without pictures.

Get in the middle lane of a highway and purposely go a little slow so you get passed on the right.

When a car is disappearing from your rearview it should already be showing up in the side view. As it's disappearing from side view you should be able to see out the passenger window.

If that's not happening then your mirrors are not adjusted correctly.

Most people adjust them too far in so you get blind spots.

The C-pillar on that BMW wagon is not thick at all.

Even if it were a foot wide, it wouldn't create much of a blindspot on the left side. The right side, yes.

I'd guess its one of those "s**t happens" things. This is why you have insurance.

i found my 1 series has a blind spot on the A pillar, it's so thick, that on small country roads, i've nearly had a collision because of it...

crossing road, 90 degrees angle, opposing traffic driving at the exact speed to stay hidden in that spot all the way to the intersection.. scary...

i do sit close to my steering wheel for a good steering position, but still never had that problem with previous cars..
