Plaxico gets 2

Better than the 3.5 he could have received.

2 years in prison just for having a pistol in a nightclub? That seems a little harsh don't you think..

Seahawk 08-20-2009 07:34 AM

This link has some excellent data for possession of a fire arm in New York.

The real meat is on page three. If Plax is not a celebrity football player his chances of going to jail are very slim. This is, in my mind, yet another selective prosecution by a DA for political reasons.

Plax is an idiot, but two years?

legion 08-20-2009 07:39 AM

I've got to wonder if the prosecutor is another "Eliot Spitzer" in the making?

flatbutt 08-20-2009 07:47 AM

Not just having the pistol but discharging the weapon in the nightclub.

TechnoViking 08-20-2009 07:48 AM

Seems like the fact that he SHOT HIMSELF should have weighed into the equation. IMO, he learned a valuable lesson about firearms already.

Forgot about that part. That makes the sentence seem a little more fair.

charleskieffner 08-20-2009 07:59 AM

im dying to know what model pistole he shot himself with????????

if its 1911 configed or any type thereof............HES THE BIGGEST IDIOT ON THE PLANET!

ie. the 1911 design is THE MOST SAFEST PISTOL EVER DESIGNED! with its many safetys.

flatbutt 08-20-2009 08:08 AM

yes charles but when you carry it in the waist band of your sweatpants with the safety off......

Point well taken and I factored that into my comments above.

The accidental discharge of the weapon, the fact that no one was hurt and the fact that he was not in the commission of a crime mitigates my desire to take two years away from Plax.

Had anyone been hurt, off with his head.

Again, he is a complete idiot, but, in my estimation not a threat to the community...one year would have been plenty.

Glock.

stomachmonkey 08-20-2009 08:33 AM

Part of his initial defense was the recent incidents of violence against NFL players.

Me thinks he has enough money to hire security that is licensed to carry a firearm.

Smells like a case of some dude wanting to be cool and thinking his celebrity gets him a free pass.

charleskieffner 08-20-2009 08:44 AM

note to self........dont carry loaded firearm in nightclub w/safety off.......hmmmm!

if it was a glock...........YIKES! so much for the uber austrian uber safe gun theory!

last week saw my first NO CARRY CCW sign at gallaghers restaraunt in the window.

only one so far that has legally posted sign against CCW since new law signed by GOVERNOR.

"Seems like the fact that he SHOT HIMSELF should have weighed into the equation."

It's not like the bullet was headed for someone else and he threw himself in front of it.

It actually did. The unlicensed combined with the discharge should have got him 3.5 years mandatory.

I'm sure there was some discussion revolving around "dumbass was lucky he ONLY shot himself".

Hugh R 08-20-2009 09:18 AM

Safety off, a chambered round, finger fuking the trigger. Only shot himself is not the point, could have been someone else's head. No sympathy here.

Disagree with your conclusion a bit. If he's not a threat to the community it seems like "probation" could properly be applied without any problems. How does incarceration serve the public?

I was thinking more along the lines of a one year suspension from the league, which is punishment enough in my mind.

Our culture has become so celebrity driven that we seem to worship or punish beyond either the talent or the crime.

Or a dude that thinks the 2nd amendment actually fking means something.

If Plax was an Eagle he would be a free man today, but instead he was forced to live in the Gestapo state of NY where his right to self defense outside his home does not exist.

FU NY.

Absolutely.
