Sniff, sniff.
I think I'm going to cry. Still, sucks, but not really that big a deal I don't think compared to how it could have gone. He could have plowed into a concrete wall instead of tires, and it could have been a direct hit instead of a glancing blow.

Yes, but from now on, at all auctions/shows the car will be attending, there will be that asterisk next to it's chassis #...

Looks like he over-cooked the entry to the corkscrew. It is a still sequence and photogs are always up on the hill as you have a great view of the corkscrew. I think that is the gravel on the north side of the descending section of track before 9.

I can still hear that line from the movie "The Rock":
"Dude, you fuched up your Ferrari". ![]() (I think too much Armor All on the tires)

It really wasn't all that badly hurt; nothing but sheet metal. In the old days he would have continued to race it that weekend - it was entirely drivable.
I, for one, applaud a man who would spend that kind of cash on a vintage car and continue to race it. Too many disappear into private, static collections, never to be ran again. My hat is off to this guy. He will fix it and keep on racing it.

I don't know the history of that particular one off hand, but most of those early Ferrari race cars have been wadded up, rusted out, left to rot and eventually rebuilt many times over the years.
That one is likely no exception. It's probably been rebuilt several times already. One more fix up on it won't affect its value at all. |

I second the approval of his racing this machine. They were meant to be driven on a track so others can truly appreciate them.
I saw a Ferrari Daytona roll at Road Atlanta in the early 90's. They rolled it Friday, flew in parts and worked on it Friday night and Saturday and then raced it again on Sunday. I hated to see it wrecked, but it was cool to watch them get it going again in such short order. And it just isn't the same as seeing one in a boring static (silent) display in a museum....

Very beautiful car in person, saw one race at the Seattle Historics. No idea it costed that much, but hey it is doing what it was meant to do.

There is shop here in Auburn, WA with a old craftsman who does complete parts in aluminum on an English wheel. The last time I dropped by he had "the" GTO that won LeMans back in the day in his shop to repair damage from shipping. He had taken it to the historic Millie Miglia in Italy only to have dented in Seattle when they were taking it out of the transport plane. He also had a Schuie F1 Ferrari in for a repaint after it went through a gravel trap. Same guy owns both cars and drives regularly in events. Very cool that he still uses them as they should be. That car will be repaired and it's value won't diminish, the value is with the history of the car.
