Article: "VW & Porsche could become Auto Union"

Interesting, if true.

Excerpt:
Quote:
It looks like Porsche and VW may come together under the Auto Union banner.

It looks like Volkswagen and Porsche are getting close to an agreement on a way forward, and it now looks likely that the new union will resurrect the Auto Union name, first used when Audi, Horch, DKW and Wanderer joined forces in the depths of the Great Depression in the 1930s. Somehow apposite then that VW and Porsche are considering using the Auto Union name for their own coming together, in the depths of what could be argued is as great a recession as the Great Depression.

I could see Auto Union being used as a joint venture into F1 and endurance racing in the future, 5-6 years down the line.

For road cars? Neither company would want to dilute their own markets with yet another brand of mixed bag parts. At least I hope not.

Um don't the 4 rings of Audi still represent the "Auto Union"?????????? Lets see now they have Porsche, VW, Audi, Lambo, Bugatti, Seat, and Skoda. Am I missing any? So the new symbol would have 7 rings?????? I don't buy it, and it doesn't make any sense for anything other than corporate letterhead.

Of course not. The car is Chevrolet, not General Motors...

Bentley. It's now 8 brands with Porsche.

There are also VW, Scania and MAN trucks and buses.

Oh yes, it certainly does make sense for something other than corporate letterhead!

You are right however about the 7 rings...

Seven [rings] for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
...
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

and here is a pic of Wienie King's corporate HQ

You need to know why it's ridiculous to compare the current recession to the great depression?

Hey! I asked first. What I need to know is why you feel that this is a ridiculous comparison.

Best,
Tom

Well, take a walk to central park in NY and take note of how it's NOT packed full, overflowing with a shanty city teeming with homeless families, as just one of a myriad of examples.

The current recession is not even remotely comparable to the great depression.

Central park during the great depression
