Do any of you name your cars?
Not all cars are worth remembering, but some deserve a special nod.
My first, at 16, was a '53 Studebaker and I called her Sylvia. I loved that car. Later as a single mom with two children I had this faithful but non-descript little workhorse that I called Buffy. About a month ago, Trekkor acquired an '83 BMW, and for the first time in a long time I have a car that needs a name. So, are there any other car namers out there? Thyra ( Mrs Trek) |
I would never name a vehicle:rolleyes:
Just look at my sig. |
My Canary yellow 914/6 was the 'Suicide Blond'

The black '86 "Coffee"
The '74, which was sahara beige (more like yellow) "Cream" I seldom use those names actually, I mostely call it: "the Porsche" |

Names are largely for convenience in my world, arbitrary identifiers rather than some symbol of affection or character.
So when I was in high school living at home, and we had like 6 vehicles, there was the truck, the white car, the Toyota, the Honda ... you get it. On rare occasions, a car may be so heinous that it earns a name. My first car, for example, was a heavily abused brown Toyota Corolla that could barely get out of it's own way. We referred to it as "the brown streak." I bought a motorcycle from a friend who had named it. To me, it's just the motorcycle, but he's intent on asking me how old George is doing every time we talk. Ok, so I sometimes called my 911 "Shadowfax," but usually was just "I'm taking the 911 today." Dan |
911: Spot
V70: Annika '83 Volvo 245: Olga '96 F-150: Mr. Bauer '51 Land Rover: Joey Best, Tom |
all my cars are named the same thing and I only use their names while I am working on them or if they are broken.
<edited Z-man> |
no, but I've named my toaster, blender, bed, shower & my hammer.
|
The old 911S was "Nina"...Evidently, Evren continues the tradition. The Mustang is just "the Mustang", but I call the 6 horsepower shop vac "Monica"...that should count for something, yes? ;)
|
Paul we really don't want to know what relationship you have with your shop vac that you felt it had a name.
|
But....Monica really sucks well!
|
I don't name my cars (names are for boats/airplanes) but I did name my "junk" Godzilla Homewrecker.

Kittman is a prat. I've never liked his writing. I remember skipping his columns when he got the gig at Automobile years ago. I read that article above and want my 3 minutes back.
