Do any of you name your cars?

Not all cars are worth remembering, but some deserve a special nod.

My first, at 16, was a '53 Studebaker and I called her Sylvia. I loved that car.

Later as a single mom with two children I had this faithful but non-descript little workhorse that I called Buffy.

About a month ago, Trekkor acquired an '83 BMW, and for the first time in a long time I have a car that needs a name.

So, are there any other car namers out there?

Thyra ( Mrs Trek)

Names are largely for convenience in my world, arbitrary identifiers rather than some symbol of affection or character.

So when I was in high school living at home, and we had like 6 vehicles, there was the truck, the white car, the Toyota, the Honda ... you get it.

On rare occasions, a car may be so heinous that it earns a name. My first car, for example, was a heavily abused brown Toyota Corolla that could barely get out of it's own way. We referred to it as "the brown streak."

I bought a motorcycle from a friend who had named it. To me, it's just the motorcycle, but he's intent on asking me how old George is doing every time we talk.

Ok, so I sometimes called my 911 "Shadowfax," but usually was just "I'm taking the 911 today."

Dan

The old 911S was "Nina"...Evidently, Evren continues the tradition. The Mustang is just "the Mustang", but I call the 6 horsepower shop vac "Monica"...that should count for something, yes?

Paul we really don't want to know what relationship you have with your shop vac that you felt it had a name.

Kittman is a prat. I've never liked his writing. I remember skipping his columns when he got the gig at Automobile years ago. I read that article above and want my 3 minutes back.
