Will VW Spell the end of Porsche?
WTF
"Obviously Porsche has a long and rich history with traditional horizontally-opposed engines. Well, this new engine will share a lot of its technology -- actually all of its technology -- with the Audi/VW in-line four. But instead of mounting it north-south or east-west like the other two, Porsche will lay the engine on its side; hence the Shadow Boxer name. This will give Porsche scope to add some product beneath the Boxster and Cayman." "If you guessed this will be an Audi Q5 given the Porsche treatment, you're right," Giancarlo says. "It will be even more expensive, slightly more impractical and luxurious -- what else is there to say? It's a home run!" "Based on the forthcoming VW Amarok ute much in the same way the Cayenne shares its DNA with the Touareg, the Cajun will be the first Porsche to carry a one-tonne payload," our insider reveals. " |

Ouch.
But the big question: Will Porsche still build incredibly fast cars? Will there still be racing in the Porsche line? I mean, I'm ok with Porsche building 4-bangers and 4-door "family cars," if it makes money to fund the race projects. I'm also ok with a Porsche 4-banger if it is built to the same exacting standards of quality that we've come to expect from the 911. If it's just going to be a VW built in Mexico with a Porsche badge, I'll be forced to vomit. ![]() Dan

Like that would ever happen. That would be like a Chrysler minivan with a VW emblem on it. Oh, wait a minute...

If you owned Porsche, the name, trademark, reputation, history, etc., would you change it? That would be pure lunacy.
How about the name GM? ![]() Sherwood |

Looking at what VW has done with these marks they own, I don't think we need to worry..
Audi AG, Bentley Motors Ltd., Automobiles Bugatti SA, Automobili Lamborghini Holding S.p.A How many big races has Audi won under VW ownership, and the Bugatti,
