Truck Shell/Camper Question

I have an '04 F150 2WD long bed work truck. I am doing a lot of camping with my son these days with the Scouts. When it's just us, we share a tent. But when he's with the Scouts he bunks with another Scout.

For those times, I'd like to get a shell to sleep in. As a kid I remember "camping kits" that were made for shells. Anyone seen one in the last few decades?

Let the web be your friend. Search the manufacturer of your topper.

we never did much car camping in scouts. cant use a camper in the back country.

my troop usually had at least one campout a month and rairly were we in any kind of situation where we were near a road let alone be able to use a camper. you need to show the kids how its done. dads all camped together but they roughed it just like the rest of us.

eventually a group of us boys got so good at backpacking we had to do two 50milers every summer. one for the elite boys and one father, (that could keep up). and for the younger ones that had 2-3dads for a group of 12+ scouts. we started at two different locations and finished up at the same take out point. younger group would take 8-9 days to do a 50miler what ever the max day count scouts allowed back then. and the elite boys would do 9-10mile days and be in the lake swimming by early afternoon. one year we slammed 20miles in the last day so we could get to the take out point first.

one summer i even did 2 50milers... a 70mile canoe trip early in the summer right after school let out and one in august. i think that 2nd one we did 50miles in 5days and never slept in the same camping spot twice.

winter trips on Mt Rainier were my favorites. snow caves and xcskis/snowshoes, those were my favorite memories of growing up.

We backpack often, both in Yosemite and on Catalina Island this year alone.

That said, there are so many trips of differing types that I am getting a little tired of sleeping on the ground all the time. All that time to get my Eagle, then in college with friends, first married, and now Scouts for a second time.

Last month we did a 26 mile bike ride to the beach. While we slept in tents, it was very much car camping. A nice camper shell would have been just about right!

The term camper shell is a little vague. Are you looking for a truck topper/cap? Or do you want a truck camper? Big difference between the two.

just a shell with something akin to a basic "vw bus" camper kit. I'm thinking they no longer exist, as I have searched the web to no avail.
