Too smoky to ride...

The sky is slate gray and where the sun shows itself, it's blood red.

Forget this crap.

I'm hitting the cycling machine tonight in the garage.

I've been wondering how our socal guys have been faring...good to know at least two of them are okay.

I see on the news that they've called in Evergreen air's 747 Tanker...hope it helps. That baby can drop a path of retardant or water 100 yards wide and three miles long.

Yeah...it's freakin' impressive. There was footage on local TV last night. I forget the number of gallons, but it was a LOT! Evidently, the plane itself is worth over $50 million. Gotta be $pendy to work it.

Looks like the two Super Scoopers showed up Sunday night. They'll help a lot too.

I decided against my evening rollerblade tonight as well. I think my lungs have already been feeling the effects of the smoke and probably why I've not been feeling 100% these past few days - yesterdays hangover not withstanding.

Yep, my whole family has soar throats. My 4 year old grandson woke up with a croup attack at 4:00 a.m. The dogs and I feel too couped up. The sky and landscape look post-nuclear. And, I have not played Tennis since Sunday!

pwd72s:

I literally live in the shadow of Mt. Wilson, so I have been watching the aircraft drop water and fire retatrdent for days now. That Spruce Goose looking aircraft (Martin Meteor) that made the BIG water drop yesterday was a sight to behold. The pilot stated that it costs $2.00 per gallon to make a drop in his plane. It holds 7,000 gallons of water so that is $14,000 per drop. He made the statement to emphasize how cost effective his airplane is. Those 747's must have cost a bundle of money. Oh well, there go the California State Garage Sale proffits--doh!

Where in the nat'l forest is the fire? Is the West Fork of the San Gabriel River, and it's watershed, okay?

JKL:

The west Fork is fine. So is the whole San Gabriel River and surrounding area. The fire (Station Fire) has traveled as far East as Mt Wilson. It is West to Glendale/Burbank , Sunland/Tujunga. The North/South burn area is really wide from South of Mt. Wilson all the way to Acton/Little Rock (in the Palmdale area).

So, West Fork is fine.

Why is it that there are either NO fires, or half a dozen fires at the same time?

It never seems like there is just one fire...

I was up at my father's ranch in Acton on Sunday helping him clear brush. You think the air is bad in LA? Head up there. Around 110 degrees with ash and thick air. The fire is about a mile from his place, but I think he'll be alright. The main thing is making sure we can get the horses somewhere safe if we have to. I've seen a couple fires up there before, but never like this.

That should be NO problem for CA - they bring in Hundreds of Billions of tax dollars. They are like the 8th largest economy in the world. Smart too. It's not like they wouldn't have saved, for a needed rainy day.

Seriously; situation sucks!
