One of my favorite shows - I have a season pass. They really do a great job with a lot of good commentary and some very unusual footage. The episode on the SR-71 was one of my favorites.

I was stationed in Thailand, near Utapao AFB, back in the later days of Nam. The SR-71 and the U-2 were active then. Watching them take off and land was a real treat...nothing like at the air shows where they tame it down a lot.

Here's a neat YouTube vid of a guy getting a ride in a U-2 trainer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJoMDq4AyLc (tried to embed but seems not to work on my Mac)

I live near Beale AFB in Calif. One of my shooting pards has been involved for decades on the U-2, not as a pilot, but nav equip. U-2's fly out of Beale all the time, and that's where the pilot training is done. I'm gonna try to hit him up or a ride in the trainer but doubtful I'll be successful.

It does from me...probably the best, purpose driven aircraft ever.

Hell yeah. I am really tight with a lot of the guys in the A-10 community and could easily get a backseat ride, if there was any such thing as an A-10 backseat. They don't even have a simulator. They just toss a pilot in a dumpster while a bunch of airmen throw rocks at it.

It has no engines, there are no flying examples of the proposed A-10 Night-All Weather 2 seat attack version. Only a small handful were ever made- 3 or 7 depending on source IIRC, none have flown in decades.

They only made one, it flew. It still has two seats, so there is such a thing as back seat in an A-10.

You can verify that here: http://www.a-10.org/phpbb2/index.php(edit: went back and did a forum search at "warthog territory", it was one afterall, my bad.) There are no flying NAW's, so one cannot get a back seat ride in one, can they? I think i was a teenager when the last NAW flew.

These 2 are from the same photo shoot as the low level tree shot above. They're from a live fire exercise.

In this pic, take out the Humvee and replace with a guy with a fishing pole.

Me. Walking down a ridge about 10 years ago near Crested Butte, Colorado, going to a fishing hole on the creek. A10 came up over the ridge right next to me. Loud. Fast. Close. Felt like he was 50 feet away. Jetwash. He climbed over the ridge in front of me and down the other side, down the creek. Pilot waved. I about lost it.
