				Radar Detector

I need to purchase a new radar detector. I'm replacing an old worn out Cobra.

I have been reading reviews on various radar laser detectors but I'm having a hard time finding one with good reviews. Can anyone suggest a unit? Thanks!

I've always had Cobras and never had a problem.

I have a hard time paying 4x for a unit, even if it is better.

Can you suggest a Cobra model? Looks like the one I currently have is no longer made.

I've owned several detectors over the years, I even had a Fuzz Buster back in the 70's and I find the Valentine One hard to beat.

Like Lazzaro, I've owned several brands over the years. I finally broke down and bought a used Valentine One. Up to that point I always thought "X, K, Ka bah! They're all the same and any detector will pick them up, and laser is useless since you can't react fast enough."

Not the case any more. My V1 has proven to be more sensitive and provides more reaction time than I ever thought possible with any detector. The arrows really do make a difference and it has great filter. I get almost no false alerts unless I'm 10-20 feet from the doors at the shopping plaza. The other detectors I had were useless along the shopping corridors so I just turned them off. I really only used them on the highways and back roads. I now use the V1 all the time and rarely get the annoying false alarms. I even got some pre warning from laser. Save up for a V1 or try to find a used one. They can be upgraded and you can even look up the serial number before you buy a used one. |

I have the Escort X50/8500 in blue display and it has saved my ass countless times. Saved me really good today in the 993. I've had it for about four years now and I just can't justify an upgrade as this one still works like a champ. I run it on the bike too. I'd be in jail without this thing.

Valentine 1. I love mine and would hate to be without it. I love the arrows and the bogey counter has saved me before. They are very sensitive, and will warn you WAY in advance. I've also had laser warnings before that have saved me.

That said, I do regularly get false alarms driving past shopping centers. Also, water treatment plants. I've even had other radar detectors in cars behind me set my V1 off. You'll get laser false alarms from some red neon lights and from the led brake lights of GM SUVs. Also, the adaptive cruise control in Infinity SUVs will set off your laser alert if they are behind you on the freeway. I'd rather get false alarms then not get an alarm when it's important.

I'm a fan of the Valentine. Once you've lived with the arrows, it's hard to do without them.

Driving a Porsche without a V1 is like boinking without a condom. Yeah, it's thrilling and all, but sooner or later it's going to result in a very expensive "oops" for you.

Get the V1. There is no substitute. I have one and will be buying a second for the wife (she likes to steal mine!)

I own a group of Valentine 1's; and have owned a Cobra and others over the years. Valentine is the best (legal Detector>non jammer) Radar Detector I have ever own! It's hard to beat the performance of a Valentine day in day out from all directions.

My V1 has stopped picking up the roadside speed gun...the one with the signs to tell you how fast you're going. I know of a few fixed position ones.

I don't know if there something wrong with the detector or they have changed the technology in those signs. Anyone know?
