New jacket, a bit over the top...

So digging through my stuff while packing to move, I found a jacket I bought off ebay long ago. It was one of those things that I saw and just had to have, for no reason. It was like $35 shipped.

I don't know why I wanted it, and I think I wore it about 3 times then there it went, into the back of my closet until yesterday.

It's rather loud, and I believe I was mistaken for Marty McFly in it. It's a Joe Rocket cafe jacket from the 80's. The leather needs redyed badly, and it looks like someone may have taken a fall in it once...


but yesterday I threw it on and drove around in the Porsche wearing it. Listening to an INXS tape. Knowling looking like a complete ass can be rather entertaining..

My foreign neighbors must think I'm like that after seeing me get out of my car wearing it..

I can't get rid of it... it's definitely worth what I paid for it.

Unless it was 80 degrees out when you were wearing it, I don't see a problem.

I have the same jacket!!!!!!!

Well, it is not exactly the same, but it has the same colors (black, white and red) and it is the same style.

I bought it new in 1992 when I got my first motorbike and used it regularly for a couple of years. Then I sold the bike and forgot about the jacket.

Last year I bought a bike again ('78 BMW R100) and rescued the jacket from the bottom of the closet to try it on. Unfortunately I can either zip the jacket or breathe, but not both at the same time

I'll try to post pics tonight.

PS. Marty McFly is OK (got the Nikes and sleevless jacket), but when I bought it I wanted to be mistaken for Pete "Maverick" Mitchell

There was a guy in my hometown, total douche, who got a "David Putty" jacket when it became popular on "Seinfeld". He had a newer M3 and thought he was the King of all Kings. He didn't know that everyone was laughing at him.

Funny you should post this. Have been going thru some old boxes of stuff I have moved without opening for 20 years.

Came across a set of full leathers I bought while living in Palma, Majorca, Spain. Wore them when I took my (then) new VF750F on the ferry to Barcelona, then rode on to Sarajevo for the winter Olympics. Bright red and white stripes. As I remember everyone wore full leathers in Europe in those days, so I didn't stand out until I opened the matching helmet and spoke english.

Cannot believe I was ever that thin. Does leather shrink?

looks like the Dolce and Gabbana one that came "back out" about 5 years ago. The cafe style retro thing peaked again about 4 years ago.

hahahaha. we had a clown who werked here for a while. a very short while. did i say very very very short while. he used to wear one of those damn things every day to work when he rode.

fancied himself the UBER MOTORCYCLIST of the planet. be it dirt/flattrack/roadrace/baja/enduro/trials/ice racing he said he had done it all and he was bad ass.

upon hiring we warned him of the RULES! rule number #1 is go very slow here because of aircraft and the ensuent dangers(sue being operative word). one day we had a motorcycle test.


this motorcycle was an ATK 605 ROTAX. his stature wasnt all that big and he thought he was gonna kick it over. well he gave it 2 kicks and it damn near threw him. anyway i walked up and he had figured out the drill for the "magic button" electric start. got bike going. i told him to warm up, then shut down to check oil. warms up, shuts down,checks oil. i tell him to fire it and then once again REPEAT RULE #1 to drive slow because of aircraft.

not less than 45 seconds later when he is out of sight of me i hear RPMS go thru roof and then NOTHING!.......................................... ......................................










i knew exactly what happened and walked away. my son witnessed this and knew i was PISSED BIG TIME!


i regained my composure, walked back to first hanger and lo and behold its the follically challenged pinhead with a broken motorcycle and cuts and bruises up and down legs and arms. LMFAO! had to really contain myself from busting out laughing.

anyway i made him work entire day in that condition licking his wounds. i know exactly what he did in the straight away area on the pavement. he pinned the throttle with knobbies and they broke loose due to INSANE 4-stroke ROTAX torque and it spit him off!


and thats how i will always remember a jacket like that. thanks for reminding me of that day and that dumber than hell know it all full of himself MORON, who thankfully isnt landing us in court for hitting a plane with a dirt bike!

Miatas ARE convertibles so I guess that makes sense. It does get cold with the top down in the non-summer months.

I have a Yamaha red, black and white jacket with the armor inside which looks a lot like that. It's a heavy duty jacket that my HS girlfriend bought for me when I got my first crotch rocket. I think I was made for Yama by Heine Gericke. (sp???). I didn't fit into it very long (put on weight after HS) so it's almost brand new and siting in the closet. Maybe one of the kids will want it some day if I get the white and red dyed black

I actually spent a fair bit of time searching for websites with info on old Joe Rocket cafe jackets but never found anything. I can't even find a picture of another J.R. jacket from that time period that looks similar.

I wore it today, which is made slightly belittling considering I don't own a motorcycle.

I have made mucho cash-ola from selling just such "vintage" collectables on eBay. Shoes, jeans, leather jackets, etc.
It seems anything from the 70's/80's is hot as all get out in Europe/Asia.
I found a pair of the original Air Jordans tucked away on my back porch that I meant to throw away 10-15-years ago. I bought them new and only wore them about three times. They were the ugliest and most uncomfortable shoes I'd ever worn.
Well, I put them on eBay - this was a few years back - and some nice young fellow from Japan took them off my hands for almost $600. Bless his heart.
