623,000 miles
Pretty amazing testimony here...lifted from a site mentioned in another thread:
Mike Shatto’s 623,000-mile 1998 Dodge Dakota

Pretty good endorsement for Amsoil.

Impressive, but lots of parts replaced, including a head rebuild. Reads like an Amsoil ad as well. There's a well covered story of a Saab 900 SPG that went over 1 million miles without any internal engine or transmission work, and the original turbo. Now THAT is impressive.

I had a brief ride in one of the million miles Mercedes...Frank Barrett did a feature on the car in STAR. One aside that still amuses me was Frank telling me he needed a part...the closest Mercedes dealer was Beverly Hills. He called, was asked how many miles were on the car...

I had a '98 Dodge Dakota. After three transmissions and a blown engine at 130,000 miles, it went to the junk yard. (A new engine cost twice blue book.)What a POS it was.

i've personally knew 2 bmw 735's that both did 2 000 000 km's on nothing then regular maintenance, not even a Top-end rebuild...
The only things that didn't work, were the Odometer and the AC. Both did the 2 million km's before the odometer gave up... I personally saw the maintenance records, where the same Bmw garage had done all the maintenance, and even marked down "odometer rolled over at 299 999". One of those 2 bimmers became my party mobile as it was handed down to me when i was in between company cars... From disco to disco, all over Belgium... Them seat's were better then the couch i have at home... It was then handed down to somebody else, who plowed it into a manure truck.. that car deserved a better ending.

I think the amazing thing is that the Dakota hadn't been scrapped by that time.
A lot of it is the environment the vehicle lands in (climate, roads, owner) once it hits the road. You can wreck anything if you don't take care of it. You can nurse a POS a long way. Personally, I think any claims of amazing mileage are diminished once the engine or transmission are opened up. To think: in order to hit that kind of mileage, someone had to spend around 10,000 hours in the seat of that thing. Now THAT's amazing. Les

Aren't the old Mercedes diesel sedans famous for going 500,000 miles without anything being replaced, except normal wear items (tires, brakes, fluids, etc)?
