Minor Flea Issue With New Puppy

My wife just bought a new puppy and we've found a few fleas. I have a one year old. Should I be concerned. The offender:

If you found a few fleas the dog is infested. However it is no big deal. Go to a good pet store and get a flea bath. Then get one of the flea drops you put on the dogs back. There are a bunch of different brands. Read all the directions size, dose and application. If you still have fleas after a week go to the vet and get frontline.

Flea medications are so go now that this shouldn't be a problem to get rid of them quickly.

I was being serious. Flea bomb = fogger. I'm sure fleas have jumped off the puppy and are now in the carpet. Maybe eggs too.

advantage or frontline...done deal. you may get a small home infestation, but without a dog to eat means equals no flea love fest...your fleas will die of old age, and you wont have anymore issues.

flea bombs are a thing of the past, except in the worst cases.

until they start eating you, I would bomb and spray all floor cracks and baseboards. flea infestation sucks!!! what a cute dog good luck with him/her

If you're not going to bomb right away, keep the dog out of your bed and off the couch.

Bombing is a PITA, but so are flea bites. Nasty.

You put a small measured dose on the back of the dog, it kills fleas and tics. As well, it will kill any flea in the house because they all end up on the dog. It works for three months and you can order it online cheap. Do not fog your house, serious poison and gets in everything.

Talk to the vet. As he is a puppy it has to be the correct dose, and the right stuff. They don't charge anything for their good advice.

Frontline, get it at the vet with the advice on dose. I hope you got this dog in a rescue situation. No excuse aside from cheapness for a reputable breeder to have fleas in their kennels.

I would not bomb the house. With what you describe there can't be an infestation that is sustainable. Also, I would worry more about the effects of a "bobmb" insecticide on a 1 year old than the remote chance of getting a flea bite.

+1 on ask the vet. They have a lot of good stuff now. After taking our cat to visit a place that had fleas, we gave him a pill provided by the vet that killed all the fleas. No problem now. Frontline always worked on our dog.

A few sumers ago after taking the dog to the kennel and heading up north for a few week vacation we returned horrified to see fleas jumping in the carpet and on us! Major infestation. I went out and bought a half dozen "foggers". They are effective, especially on carpets as the fog penetrates the carpets.

Several things to note with foggers: If you leave the pilot light on water heaters, stoves/ovens, etc, you might blow your house up! You have to set them up on solid surfaces so they remain stable while the fog is discharged. Placing on a table is the best. You close all windows, start with opening one fogger and run one hell of a speed course opening the others as you hold your breath before going out the door! Several hours later you return and notice no odors! Proceed with opening the windows, vent the house and vacuum the carpet.

Cheap and easy...............

Make sure Fiddo is flea free.

i think that is what the wife puts on the cats.
we had/have a MAJOR flea infestation. the neighbors dog had this open wound on her back and was dieing, long story. but she infested outside around the house. she was slepping in the kids plastic playhouse and infested that so bad they looked like ants all over the ground. it has taken several treatments but they are gone from there. i used this stuff you spread around then water in, but, i watered it in with a different brand of spray that goes on the hose. (it had a different chemical in it that the powder stuff). i had to use the spray 3 times.

the dog infested this old walk in freezer that i have that is no longer used. i set off 3 bombs 3 different times and it still did not totally kill them.

for the house. vacuum every day. walk around with white socks on, the fleas are attracted to the white and if you have them, they will jump on your socks. as bad as they where around the outside of the house, we managed to keep them out this way.
another thing you can do is put i white plate on the floor with dawn in it. turn out the lights but put one light on the plate, they jump on the plate and get stuck

now the neighbors shed is infested. i went in it over the weekend. i was in there 5 seconds and about 50 fleas on me.

I have been doing rescue for about 15 years now, and have had a number of dogs come through my house with fleas. Never had to bomb the house. Advantage or Frontline on the dog always takes care of it quickly, and so far I have yet to even have them spread to another dog.

Also, if the dog has fleas, keep an eye or his dumps for worms.

flea breed in a cycle. maybe 40 days? you bomb, and only the adult fleas get killed. the flea eggs are safe from the bomb...you need to smoke them out 40 days later. (i think it is 40 days).

Oh yeah, she's got those now too. Ya know, I told the wife we should wait to get the dog until after the baby's out of daipers, I figured one less headache. Nope she couldn't wait.

Breeder online, and she wasn't cheap.
