Let me add that PARF is the consummate battlwe of egos where those who are convinced they know the Real Truth go to bang their heads and gentlemen parts against the wall trying to convince the unwashed how big theirs is and how small theirs (argument) is. It is the ultimate exercise in futility but they will probably not catch on. Of course people always change positions and when they are told they are an idiot.

The last time I visited that hole of ‘intellectual’ depravity I could have used one of Jeff’s skanky skanks to feel cleaner than I did. Friends don’t let friends PARF.

I read the first sentence and thought....oh hell no....some of the legendary PARFaholcs have a few years on Higgins and I...it's a disease I tell ya!

PARF....a little goes a long way...none goes on forever :)

PARF is a place where people drop in from OT to dispense what they feel is unadulterated genius on some sort of political issue. When their argument fails miserably, they get all huffy, call anyone who disagrees some sort of insulting name and vows to never come back (like they would be missed). Then they come to OT to insult the folks who had the temerity to disagree and who expected a lucid argument. One suspects that most do not often discuss issues with others in a position to disagree. Instead of insults, they should simply improve their knowledge on the subject as that will improve their argument...or simply stick to exchanging recipies and Craigslist scores in OT where no one cares enough to disagree.

view the six stooges (both sides) with the ability to derail thread after thread with their juvenile personal spats....nobody cares, and most just don't visit PARF for that reason....

One can simply ignore the children...but most of the angst here has little to do with them and much to do with folks coming to a debate where “because I said so” doesn’t serve as a strong argument.

Or ignore PARF altogether once the temp climbs above 8 degrees...brr :(. Honestly...most folks, myself included, just get sick of it...and statistics don't help fint :)

I suggest diving into PARF head first, displaying all of your political, and moral leanings in every post you can respond to.....then, the next morning, see how you feel about the responses to your posts.

fintstone 01-02-2018 03:32 AM

Many of the most vocal complaintants are regular visitors to PARF who receive regular spankings rather poorly. I cannot imagine why they would not expect disagreement in a BBS titled “Politics and Religion”. Calling a sitting President insulting names or denigrating a major religion should make one expect an equally virulent response. It seems that certain parts of the country are so strongly indoctrinated on certain issues that they feel that there is really no need to make an argument beyond “everybody knows...” and if you disagree, you must be stupid, racist, homophobic, etc. Why anyone would expect folks to back up their claims seems totally beyond their comprehension. Conventional “wisdom” spouted by these folks has not worked...it is time that issues are examined in a fresh, new manner.

If you don’t like to debate, you should avoid it. Apparently, others do not share your view. Lots of folks can only take so much of the pablum of OT....but they don’t constantly start/post trash talk about it. It takes all types. Coexist.

Debate is fine....the bs ratio is just to high for most to tolerate...yep, others share each of our views.

Not me. I am but a meek observer of the carnage...trying to learn from my betters.

So then, you read RSBob's post too. ;)

not that he's the only one who does that. #snowtires

But, that is what I like about PARF. Even those whom I disagree with regularly there typically aren't so thin-skinned... Sure, some are Kool-Aid-Krazy for a Huff-po article, a charting politician's hotties on rollerskates, slapping like a pimp, or even any other's anal sphincter... But, at least they're not thin-skinned ninnies. :)

Although, I think guitar-man is about to have an emotional meltdown. Or maybe he's just howling at the moon.

Think of it as the place that members go to celebrate Festivus. There's a constant airing of grievances going on and it gets ugly at times.

Nah, Festivus is universal across the forum.

Just look at the my cruise wasn't like a stock photo thread.

What's fascinating about PARF is that a few of the regulars must not have owned a mirror in their entire lives. Or maybe it's a "debate" trick to accuse those they're arguing with of the things/behaviors they themselves frequently do/exhibit. Anyway, it's quite entertaining in a manner similar to watching slow-motion train wrecks. I guess that could be hobby. Haha!

it is not just about owning a mirror. Lots of people look into the mirror, but they interpret what they see into their world view.

I find that extremely funny as well. For example, many of the same guys that spent years crying out "ballwasher" in response to even a hint of approval at something the then-current president was doing, are now shamelessly scrubbing their fingers raw over any and everything the current guy gets up to - and doing it with a glee; comedy at its finest!

PARF is a magical place where people can show their true selves, and stop PRETENDING to be something they are not.

Yes, people's true selves are often ugly, offensive, and downright disturbing.
But rarely are we afforded the chance to see reality on display in such a wonderful fashion. IF you have the courage to face what is real and give up the PC confines of our comfortable faux existences.

It is definitely not for everyone, I can't recall who first said "it's not for the thin-skinned" but a greater understatement would be hard to find.

This thread is full of folks who do not fit that bill by their own admission.
Warm and fuzzy is much more comforting, even if it is just a.......

PS, rarely are we afforded a better learning environment than PARF.
If ... we actually read and evaluate, and IF we do meaningful research to back our opinions and assumptions.
Many do not and are called out on it immediately.
