Now in 993 land ...
|
One should worry that the Porsche marque will be further diluted with non sports cars that are built from the VW parts bin. If the companies were further apart (i.e. like Fiat and Ferrari) this would be less of a worry, but historically these companies have worked very closely together.
To me this is all not that important. By the time I can afford a new 2015 VW-Porsche, I hopefully can also afford a used 997 tubo. I know what I'll go for ... George |

Further diluted? That's hardly possible.
It doesn't matter any more, anyways. It's over for Porsche, it has been for a while. They make some nice cars, but nothing like the legendary, unique, iconic and enduring cars of their glorious past. Losing their status as an independent maker was simply another nail in their coffin. |

I heard a "ka-ching" go off from my driveway. Yep, that was my old "as they once were" air-cooled 911 increasing in value.

I personally think that the biggest problem they face is a peculiar form of German insanity that allows them to rationalize ugly. But there again, the younger generation doesn't see with my eyes either. WW did screw up big time though. How it plays out remains to be seen. I doubt that they will stop making fast cars though. The thing is, the days when a handfull of men pound a car out of sheetmetal and castings IS over. But then, so are the days of the horse and carriage. We are the anachronism. |

I would definitely get one if the price is right, has RWD and has a decent amount of power (like the M Coupe). However, I hope they make an RS version so I am not stuck with all these electronic gadgets I don't want.
The day Porsche makes a FWD car is the day that they have killed their business... |

you guys are way to harsch.
It looks comparable to my 1 series Bmw , just a bit bigger, probably a bit more powerfull. I absolutely love my 118D, it reminds me of the 944S i had before it , only better. The above "baby Porsche" , should be even better then that... Light, nimble, fast. What's not to love about it? Looks better then a Boxster or Coxster ever will imho.

doubt it, it wouldn't make any sense whatsover from a marketing point of view. BMW doesn't do it no their smaller cars either. The only FWD car they make, is the Mini, and that's not under the BMW brand... They'll keep the FWD for VW with a natural upgrade path to RDW Porsche for the customer who has more cash to spend, and wants more fun in return.

I really wish BMW gave us the 135 hatchback here. When I was in Europe I saw them everywhere. That is a PERFECT car for me, in terms of practicality and awesomeness.

In some test, The 135 came close or did in fact (can't remember, i remember exactly) spank the M3 on a track.

So Porsche needs to totally disregard my generation huh? The bunch that would be in the market for this type of car when it comes out. Gee did you fail economics 101?

Ya you kinda did. You basically said Porsche was not good anymore. He said thats not how the younger generation feels. And you said they are wrong. Looks to me like you think the younger generations opinion doesn't matter. Which doesn't surprise me at all based on some of your earlier posts...
W/e I'm not going to argue the same schit with you again. |

That's not necessarily Porsche's fault, it's just a different era than it was when Porsche was at its peak, focused solely on making the finest sports cars on the planet. I can't think of many production cars being built today that are truly unique, or will become legendary, iconic or enduring. We are the disposable generation now, and that includes our cars, even high end cars. |

I drove a gutted and prepped 135 on the Nurburgring. The suspension wasn't stock but the engine was. The instructor I had was telling me that a suprising number of guys who drove both the 135 and the M3 on that track preferred the 135. It certainly felt awesome. It didn't feel as light as I would have thought, but the engine made up for the heft. The best part is the complete lack of turbo lag- it just felt great.
Problem I had was the pricing here- a 135 new ends up being $40k. They had a used one on their lot one day, I pulled in to see the price- $38k. They are really overpriced for now. Plus, we don't get the awesome hatch. |

that ain't pretty. Doubt it's realistic, more like some dude chopping up something in Photoshop, with stuff yanked from other Porsches now on the market.
Side profile looked nice, front does not. I'll take one like it though if my Boss pays for it ![]()
