What are your Seven Wonders Of The World?
What are your Seven Wonders Of The World? Less than seven is okay too.
I'm talking about individual man-made structures that one can visit. So "the Grand Canyon", or "the national freeway system", or "Paris", or "the human spirit", or "____'s boobs" do not count. Including pictures would be nice. I'm trying to assemble a list of things that one should visit in one's life.

I think the Pyramids and Terra Cotta Army are two of them, maybe Machu Pichu and Angkor Wat too.

Good call on the Nazca drawings! I've always found those fascinating. What's even more amazing is that they we made by moving small dark colored stones that are naturally occurring to the edge of the lines, and that's it. They aren't carved into the landscape, or mounded or anything. It's just displaced stones.
I haven't necessarily seen these in person, so my choices will be based on reading about them and seeing pictures of them. I agree with several of the choices above. I'll probably go over 7 Pyramids/Sphinx Stonehenge Angkor Watt Chichen Nitza Terra Cotta Army Wieliczka Salt Mine - Amazing place, saw a show about it once, includes underground cathedral Great Wall of China Nazca Lines Taj Mahal Mt Rushmore Kinkaku-ji (Japanese Golden Temple) Sripuram (Golden Temple in India) The Colliseum I think there are probably also several churches, castles and mansions that would be awe inspiring, but I wouldn't even begin to know where to start. I know that the UK, Germany, Italy and Russia have some really amazing architecture and places.

I think Steve's list is pretty cool, but I would add Petra, Jordan to it.

Location has a lot to do with it (no, not the SBs!) so two of my favorite wonders are the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge.

I asked a buddy at work without giving him any sort of primers
"So, as far as currently existing stuff that's man-made, what would you consider the greatest?" This is what I got back from him. I'm not sure if the "currently existing" is what caused him to go this route or what. Quote:

Not much of a building or artistic acheivment, the Buddhas at Bamiyan represented the Silk Road and the early beginings of globalization.
On the same note there was a pharo sarcophigi which tested positive for tobacco and cocaine, both native to the americas. |

Basilica Papale di San Pietro (St Peter's - Rome)
![]() Visually stunning inside & out. And wandering into the attached museum - Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling . . . you don't have to believe to be awed. Photo (poor one -sorry) taken from outside the dome. Ian

And several items no longer exist, and all that we have to go on is what we can read about them.

Art of the 7 wonders
The 7 wonders of the ancient world...done on a pool cue. Read the thread to see all the pics. How much? If you have to ask...(edit)...people seldom play with cues like this...a showpiece. Kind of like the "dead" (never driven) cars at car shows...
