Losing game two with Beckett on the hill was devastating for Boston. Game three was thrilling and the Angels made folks like Papelbon look 'almost' human.

The announcers jinxed the BoSox when they trotted out the stat that Papelbon hadn't given up a run in the post season in 53 innings (or whatever it was). I turned to the misses and said at the time "wow, they just jinxed him good."

I wanted to BoSox to win, so that they could play the Yankees. Regardless, the Yankees are in and that's all I care about.

here's a little nugget that is apparently from the LA Times (so I'm told)...

.....Overshadowed by the Angels' ninth-inning rally were the two runs they scored against reliever Billy Wagner and Papelbon in the eighth inning -- runs that wouldn't have scored had Pedroia been able to turn Kendry Morales' hard-hit grounder into an inning-ending double play.

But the ball took a bad hop, handcuffing Pedroia and extending the inning.

"Our infield sucks. It's the worst in the game. I'm not lying about that," said Pedroia, who blamed the grounds crew. "That stuff upsets me. My job's to take 1,000 ground balls a day and the others guys' jobs are to get the field perfect so we can play baseball.

"It happens. That's the way it goes."...

I'm about to make a confession that breaks all rules of baseball... I'm born and bread in NY and have been a Yankees fan since birth. The first major league game I ever went to was in Yankee stadium back in the 70's with Lou, Reggie, etc all playing. As if that wasn't enough to solidify my allegiance to the Yanks, I also got to witness the "I love you Lou" hottie run across the outfield w/ her top off. Mind you at 7 years of age - this makes a lasting impression and very immediately made it clear that there was nothing better on earth than the Yankees.

You see, my father is from Boston. He still has "idears" and on occasion will drive a caaa instead of a car. He naturally was a BoSox fan. After relaying what I had witnessed at Yankee stadium, I was dumbfounded that my father was in denial that the Yankees were the best. As punishment, I didn't speak to him for a week (very hard for a 7 yr old to accomplish). Needless to say, his persistence wore off on my and I moved the Mets out of spot #2 (hey, they had Tom Seaver), and knowing full well I was about to upset the balance of the universe, accepted the Sox as my 2nd favorite team.

Fast forward many years into the future and I'm living in Boston, attending numerous Sox games and proudly joining in as one of the bleacher creatures, tormenting any opposing player that was stupid enough to come within earshot. However, I was an imposter. I knew I couldn't let my true feelings show, especially with the amount of "Yankees suck" paraphernalia scattered about Yawkey Way and Landsdowne. I knew to keep my true feelings hidden, but this was harder than you can imagine. If you don't know Boston or the level of intensity and devotion Bostonians show their sports teams, it's time for a road trip.

Keep in mind, I am and always will be a Yankees fan first. So, whenever the Sox would lose, I'd have a slight smirk or grin on my face the next day. It was almost impossible to contain myself when the Sox would always do the inevitable and knock themselves out of the playoffs. You see, Bostonians always believe "this is the year" and every year, save one, it wasn't. I was even confronted by a few of the more astute fans, curious as to why I was happy on the day following a Sox loss. So, while I enjoy the Sox and have attended far more Sox than Yankees games, it gives me great pleasure in saying, "ha ha - you knew this was coming, what made you think this year was any different?" Oh yeah, and one more thing - GO YANKS!!!

Pedroia's comments were B.S. Does he have any idea how the fields used to be "way back when"? Big ruts, uneven surfaces, bare patches, even molehills were common in the by-gone days of the sport. I'd actually like to see it more like that - a bit more rough and tumble with re-elevated pitchers mounds and the like - rather than today's watered-down incarnation of the sport with a bunch of millionaire prima-donnas standing around on golf-course manicured lawns waiting to make their one or two catches a game while all the hitters look to "go yard" every at-bat (rather than engaging in situational/tactical hitting) because the game is so ridiculously tailored towards the home run ball these days.

I still like baseball, but as with most things - the best era of it has come and gone.

While this story is a little disturbing (I don't think a true Yankee fan can wear a red sox cap or cheer for that team, ever) at least i see where you are coming from. But your situation is better than the people I know that have "switched." You can't freakin' switch. I know a girl form college, born and raised in Boston... HUGE sox fan in college. After we graduate, she moves to CT (this is around the yankee dynasty era, 1996-2000) and I see her in a bar wearing a Yankees hat. I was like, "what the hell are you doing?" Then she's trying to talk to me about the Yankees, and Jeter, etc. I couldn't do it. I felt sick. And dirty. Just be what you are.
They say there's no crying in baseball, that may be true, but there's no switching either.

One of my kids played on a T-ball team that was the Red Sox. I was coaching and had to wear that damn hat. I broke out all around my head where the hat touched my skin. It was horrible. =)

I can honestly say that I've never worn a Sox hat. My daughter has, but no me I was even wearing my Yanks cap yesterday to mow the lawn. Also, I feel that I need to clarify my "cheering" as a bleacher creature... There's not a lot that occurs in the bleachers that I would qualify as "direct cheering" for the Sox. If you haven't been, the general premise is:

1) Drink lots of alcohol. If your first beer is at the game, you're already behind
2) If a player looks up toward the bleachers, you yell and scream as loud as possible. If he's not a Sox, every other word needs to be a swear.
3) Repeat step #1
4) Hit the beach ball as hard and far as possible. Bonus points for bouncing it off someone's head. Extra points awarded if that person wasn't paying attention.
5) Repeat step #3
6) Don't puke - it's worse than being on the visiting team

I don't have a Sox hat...but I do have a Jacoby Ellsbury autographed hat...from when he played for the Portland, ME Sea Dogs...he didn't play there long before being "called up". Of course, I don't wear the autographed one...bought another for wearing. Many thanks to John Fusco for sending it to me! I consider it more than a fair swap for the factory workshop manuals I gave him.

I had trouble getting off the phone when I ordered the non autographed cap...the guy selling sea dogs gear couldn't stop raving about Jacoby's performance while there, rattling off stat after stat.

I live a few miles from angel stadium and was rooting for the bosox too.
Traffic sucks when A stadium sells out.
Last Thursday it took me 70 minutes to get home from work when it usually takes 40.

Other than that I could not care less about professional baseball. After they went on strike that last time I lost interest.
Bunch of pansies, playing a game and crying because they only get $5 million a year to do it.
12 ounce Beer for $6, peanuts for $5, $7.50 for a "designer" hot dog, parking costs a gazillion, tickets are equal to the national debt, and they cry when they get tested for steroids and illegal drugs and they fail to live up to a signed contract if someone esle gets paid a little more. And the owners cave.
Another case of a union destroying an industry because of too much power and too much greed.

But there are obviously still "fans" who don't mind getting raped.

I was privileged enough to be the director/technical director for the Jumbotron for the Yanks this past Spring Training.

I cannot stand the friggin Yankees. Bunch of overpaid crybabys. Being a Rangers season ticket holder, it's tough for me to root for the Angels, but hey...at least they're in our division.
