Had to put our dog to sleep.
Molly,
Going on 13 years, pit/lab mix picked up as a pup from the local pound. She was a great dog, loving and friendly to all. My son was 9 when we got her, he is now 21 and with me when it was done. She will be missed.

Damn...I hate these threads. All who have let a pet become a member of the family know your sorrow. I'm sorry...Molly will always have a special place in your heart.

Really sorry about your loss. I hate these threads as well, as a pet owner/animal lover I know how it feels. She looks like a great dog, I'm sure she is in dog heaven now

Our "the donner" (duane the cat) is really getting up there in years, my wife is going to be an absolute wreck when that day comes.....

Molly looked like she was very smart, to the point of being devious/crafty.

I know I have to do Olivia soon but she eats and craps like a horse and has all her senses about her, but her hips are giving out. Without a doubt she is the best dog I ever had. She has a huge heart.

I'm very sorry.
We put my chow chow to sleep almost 15 years ago. For the next year or more, I'd sometimes wake up crying. I still think about her. Pets are very, very important.

My sincerest sympathy... I know how it is and hated doing it for clients all those years... you never ever 'get used to it' as some think. One of our dogs has liver CA and is close...

Thanks to all, it was harder than I thought. It was expected her mind was strong but the body was not. She was loosing all feeling to her hind legs from arthritis and nerve damage. My son took it pretty hard, he picked out from the pound, she was around over half his life.
Thanks again to everyone, it is amazing how close you get to them.

My sympathies, but it was the right thing to do.
The 16yo family lab (who I grew up) with had his hind legs frozen and had was making accidents in the house. Always in pain, and I there was a time I thought he would pass years before. His head hit the mat before they withdrew the needle because he was ready to go. |

Dogs will often suffer with dignity, and hang on, because we cannot bear to see them part. You did the right thing, as tough as it was.
Remind your son that in time, he will remember his old friend and smile. He must be well on his way to being a man. It isn't what happens that makes us who we are, but how we handle it, and the context we put on it. Don't be too sad. Your Molly had a good life, and she knew love. There is not much more we can ask for, when you get down to it. |
