Really, though, just go ride it and make sure you like the riding position. Otherwise I think they're cool as anything.

yeah. All my bikes have been more upright in the past. I loved the old Triumph Trident. The V-Rod appeals because of the crazy power and relative light weight, under 650 pounds. Plus, the look just grabs me. I'll probably look like a circus bear on a bicycle on that thing.

I wonder how miserable the feet forward thing is. It would be a short distance weekend bike only.

Moses I think you are in the wrong place to get talked out of a cool bike.

Apparently you haven't read all the threads on here saying that Harley's are trash Moses!

(Of course I have about 10,000 miles on my bagger without a single hiccup).

Ride it, if you like it, buy it. You can always sell it later on.

Not crazy about the looks of the Rocket. The Triumph Thunderbird looks nice, though.

All right, I will.

But only if you'll talk me out of this.

The Rocket III is offered in a variety of configurations, and is very customizable thereafter.

I'm 6'5" and 260# and the Rocket III was a perfect fit for me... very well balanced as well for a large bike, wicked fast, and at least as importantly, not a Harley.

Ride a Rocket III. Then decide. They've been out long enough that the secondary market is affordable, and someone else may have done the customizing you want.

They made a streetfighter kit... but it may be a bit much for you... http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2005/06/16/triumph-rocket-3-streetfighter/

I second the Rocket III, its a very big and cool bike, easier to handle than most any other cruiser bikes i have ridden, once the wheels turn its balanced.
Oh and make sure your holding on when you open the throttle, the bike has so much torque that it almost feels like it will shoot out from under you, (not kidding,) thats why you should test ride it, plus the Rocket has a very very cool triple sound that only gets better if the pipes are modded.
As for the FJ40 go for it it looks great, things to watch for, a choppy ride if the stock springs are swapped,
dodgy brakes unless it has discs up front (86 and newer),
carb icing if the original intake /engine are not installed.
If driven in the winter then the rear heat option is good to have as the single heater isnt too good in the defrost mode.
RUST in the footwell, the front fender supports at the edges, the rockers, the rear quarters and the rear valance under the doors.
Make sure that a new fuel tank has been fitted to the underside of the passenger seat they do rust out, its easy to swap out
The roof can also have rust along the edges where it meets the sidewalls.
Otherwise a great offroad truck with 4:11 gears not good for long drives as you will be doing about 60 or so and figure about 10 to 13mpg.
Usually a rear fuel tank is also added, to increase the range of the 13 gallon stocker

Ride it first. Put an hour on it at least. Hell, just have the sales boob hold the bike upright while you sit on it and chat w/ him for an hour.

Every guy I've seen on one of those looks like he's being tortured.

It's Ducati money for something that isn't a Ducati. It weighs as much as a small car. It is not agile. It is not nimble. It even isn't overly fast in a straight line. It looks good and sounds good but beyond that it's a rumbly chair that bounces you down the road. You will tire of it quickly.

There, talked it out of you.
