I think that was exactly his point. If one is going to spend X amount of dollars on a motorcycle then who are the players?

Would it have been better he compare a comfy recliner with a jackhammer strapped to the back?

Oh and make sure your holding on when you open the throttle, the bike has so much torque that it almost feels like it will shoot out from under you, (not kidding,) thats why you should test ride it, plus the Rocket has a very very cool triple sound that only gets better if the pipes are modded.

Very cool manufacturing process for them too!

I think you have to ask what itch are you trying to scratch. I personally have no interest in a bike like that, but there are reasons that there are different styles of bikes.

At 500lbs my GS is about the upper limit of what weight I'd put up with, unless I went with an RT with a goal of doing a few K miles a month. If I'm on a bike I want to have fun, and wrestling 650lbs isn't my idea of fun. On saturday I rode one of these:

That was fun...

the M491 have a wider stance (cornering) and turbo brakes.

I'm just saying; I can see where the poseur comment comes from for that bike. (among other tumpity . . .thumpity bikes)

I don't know, I think that bike just has a personaily complex. Its not a cruiser, and its not a sport bike, its kind of a tweener. Very much the same thing I thought about the BMW GS when I owned it. It wasn't very good off road due to its weight, and the riding pisition was very upright, and for me, not great on the highway.

Touched a nerve eh? Call me a poseur then if it makes you feel better for lusting for a M491. Get over it. HD riders on cruisers like that are trying to live up to an image. They're more annoyed that there's a lack of a cup holders for their lattes than a lack of power or performance.

Go buy a Goldwing.

Nope, I don't think you touched a nerve at all, I could give a crap what you think.

Also I had no clue that you were lusting for a M491, I was only responding to island about machines that are more "show" than go.

Your generalization of Harley riders already points out what your mentality to them and their owners are, so having a rational discussion with you is pointless.

WTF would I want a goldwing?

IMO that bike looks really uncomfortable. More importantly it looks really unstable should the need to vacate a spot of roadway suddenly arises. Then again I don't fancy the cruiser bike style either so what do I know... Have you ridden one yet?

Wow. Its pretty simple then? I have no ego wrapped up in what I drive. I'm WAY beyond that. Immeasurably beyond that. I have no need to prove anything to anybody. And I'm not too keen on impressing folks either. I just think the bike looks pretty cool. Simple as that.

anyone thats a doubter should go take a Rocket for a quick test ride, it will quite possibly change your mind about riding a heavier bike.
The only reason i took one for a ride was it was sitting out front of the dealer and ready to go, I got on it and found that parking lot turns were the easiest things as the bike is so well balanced, as soon as the wheels turn you can put your feet on the pegs its not a hand full like my 03RK was.
Once underway the bike was definitely big, but one twist of the throttle and it felt like the bike was going to come from under me, and it was so fast and nimble,( not sure if you can use these words to describe a cruiser)
Anyway before you buy an any other cruiser type bike just take a ride on the Rocket let us know what you think.
I will bet you will really be surprised.
Not to mention you can pick up a used one with lo miles for about half of the one your considering, and in my opinion its way more bike without any hype, and it probably wont get stolen if you leave it out somewhere.
Good Luck with your search
