do you open the car door for you sig other?
damn typo! i meant "your sig other"!!!
i sometimes do. 100% if it is "date night". i think the keyless remote killed chivalry. i double tap the remote, and we jump in. she does get all giddy when i open the door. what about you guys? |
Yes. I open for every lady, regardless of if she is my 'date' or not. They will often comment how their boyfriend(s) don't do such things.
edit: it is such a habit that once or twice I caught myself accidentally opening the pass. door for guy friends, LOL |
Yes, for 30 something years.
|
Yes... but we are still in our first year... and I'm 52 so pretty old school.
And big yes to it makes her all giddy... cute how she tries to hide it. ;) Also yes to I open doors for any lady... even let them enter and exit elevators first. |

By the time I get the kids strapped in the car seats, the thought of opening one more door doesn't even occur to me.
Now date night (which is seldom), that is different. I always open the door on our chariot for my bride. |
building doors is natural. life gets in the way for car doors. cart full of groceries...load up car, shut trunk...and she waits for her door? what about kids? you load up the offspring, and then open the door for the little lady?
what i DO have to work on....i need to stand up from a table when any woman steps up. talk about standing out from a crowd. huge. |
When I first started dating the wife I had a MB 300D with hydraulic locks. Even though there was a key hole on the passenger side, it was next to impossible to use it, and if you did, the back doors would fail to lock. The car sequentially unlocked the doors starting with the driver's door if you unlocked that door. If you didn't start with that door, the system wouldn't work right for weeks.
Anyway, I got in the habit of NOT unlocking/opening car doors for my wife because of that car... |
Yes.
|
man, I did this religiously until we had the kids. Now, she gets one of them in and I get the other. Real romantic, huh?
We haven't gone anywhere by ourselves in so long I forgot the last time I opened the door for her. I do get doors when we enter buildings and what not so I guess that's better than nothing. I really wanted to write "her hands/arms aren't broken, let her get the door herself" but I figured that would be kind of harsh, if she ever read this.;) |

used to do it all the time... now i do it most of the time.. it keeps them guessing.. and it makes them appreciate it when it is opened for them.... for a laugh i open it then close it quickly.. or just open it a crack... lol..
|
I open the door for my wife, and also for my daughter.
|
yep. i do all of the old school stuff...because it REALLY does make a difference. When I was in college,I was the drummer for the women's choir, and we frequently had black-tie events where the girls performed. It was me and 50 girls....so I learned very quickly about old school chivalry. ...they ate it up, big time. Standing when a girl would arrive/leave the table would make their mouths drop...in a good way.
My XJR is the least date friendly car I've ever owned....there is no keyhole on the passenger side, and my remote clicker is cashed. It drives me nuts when I can't open the door for a girl. |
Absolutely.
It's how proper Southern mothers trained their sons. Also, stand up from the table when she comes back from the restroom, etc. If not, they revoke your Southerner Status! :-) (Happy to read so many non-Southern boys also do these things!) |
Yes - I have to. From the inside. The door handle is broken. :D
|
Yes, always have, always will... Taught my son to do the same thing...
|
Only on my 993. I don't like her touching the outside of my car.
When I was a kid and my dad opened the door to a restaurant for my mom, a guy coming the other was said to him, "That ain't your wife." Ha! |
every time.
|
Yes,
Wife, Mom even the daughters. Never thought about it for the guys. I just panic when I think they open the door to far and it get's to close to anything. Karl 88 Targa |
Always, my father taught me that a Lady never opens her own door...
|
I always open the door for women. It gives you a chance to check out the caboose.;)
Well, the girl i'm currently seeing. I forgot to do that on the first date, but it was a rushed date. I did hold her hand and let her go first through things. The second date I open the car door for her both times, when I picked her up and when we came back from the event. I think opening the car door and walking in front of the car is the way to go because it gives a visual image that your a great guy. I wont say what else went down the rest of the dates as I am a gentleman.:D |
Every time I lean across to try I'm driving too fast and the air pressure keeps it from opening far enough.

Chivalrous bunch aren't you.
I confess I only do it for special occasions and I was taught better. |
These days it's very seldom......although it was a lot more common before the kids were born.
Having to strap the boys in the back kinda killed the whole idea. After 19yrs, if she doesn't know where the door handle is, she shouldn't be in the car. Besides....she doesn't open my door when she picks me up from the pub. hehehe |
What Byron said. I open the door for women, not just cars. They frequently appear surprised by it. Only had one go all women's libber on me in my entire life.
It is a dying habit. |
If you really want to impress, always walk on the curb side of the side walk while walking down the street. Also, while crossing a street, switch sides so that you're always on the side that's closest to oncoming traffic. I was on a date with a girl a few weeks ago, and she was the first girl ever to notice that...it blew her away.
|
There's and old joke about guys doing it when either the girl is new or the car is new.
Its the gentlemanly thing to do I've been married 30+ years. It's not a big deal with my wife, I do it when we are going some place special and I like to catch her off guard every so often it always brings a big smile to her face. |
Common courtesy - at least the way I was brought up. Other doors, restaurants, wherever, I'll open the door out of simple courtesy to the other, male or female. Common courtesy - maybe not so common anymore, don't care; feels right and respectful to me so that's what I do.
|
don't they have their own hands?

THIS MORNING: thanks to the bay bridge closure, i found myself riding a train to work. i grabbed a great seat, jammed in ipod, relaxed. the VERY NEXT stop, a lady with a cane comes on board...i avoided eye contact..and waited to see if anyone would give a seat to the old lady. SOB's! nobody!. i gathered up my stuff and offered my seat. she took it...and i stood nutstoass with everyone else jammed in. hated it. most people never even looked up! courtesy is dead. let's face it.

Also, I go on, housewives back in those days would commonly empty their dishpans by dumping them out of second story dwellings over store fronts and being closer to the curb meant standing a better chance of detting doused. Ah, chivalry and gallantry - they seldom fail to impress! :) One exception was a number of years ago when I took a lady out dancing on a first date. I opened the car door for her when I picked her up and she looked at me kinda funny. When we got to the club I came around, opened the car door and also opened the door into the club for her. As I did so, without a smile she said "I do know how to open doors for myself!" So I said "Sorry. I wasn't quite sure." Had one drink, we didn't dance, took her home and dumped the feminazi (OMG! I'm sounding like Limbaugh!) off at the curb. I let her open her own door - funny, she had to ask me how to get out (it was an old Porsche and she didn't have a clue :D). Needless to say, there was no second date. I remember chuckleing to myself as I drove away, hoping she broke a fingernail pulling the tab. :) |

Steve opens the car doors on date nights but other than that, I bail in on my own. Lest you think he lack chivalry, let me share the rest of the story. For the past 20 years he has scraped windshields on my car every cold morning. Twenty years. To hell with the car door - the windshield de-icing every winter morning makes up for it in spades. Chivalry lives, men have honor, and the world is a better place for it. angela |
Whats women? What do they do for me?
