Where do you rank on the "Taking care" scale?
As you know, there is a scale of 1 to 100 which reflects how well a person or family takes care of "stuff." For example, my mom bought inexpensive foos ball tables for my family (five kids) and one of my sister's family (four kids). Our table was trashed, and I mean trashed, within four weeks. My sister's is still going strong after five years. This and a billion other examples place us at 26 on the scale. My sister's family is 90 plus.

I'm probably somewhere in the 80s, my parents are definitely hovering at 95 or better. They are crazy about taking care of the stuff we have, and overall I'm glad I was brought up that way. It has allowed me to always have nice things. There is a reason that the average age of a car in our house is 11.6 years old.

I don't know where I rank on a scale, but I had the same hair dryer for 27 years...
It finally started electrocuting me through the case and that's when I got rid of it! My appliances last a long time (and I expect them to...). I've owned two washing machines my entire life. The current one has been running under heavy family/sports use for about 14 years. My mother is exactly the opposite. She's lucky to get 2 years out of a washer or dryer before it quits running. Just beat everything to death. Especially cars.... Oh good lord, you shoud see what my mother does to cars... In he car dictionary, beside the word HELL is a picture of my mother. angela

My Wife still has all her toys and games intact and in good condition from when she was young. Me, I got nothin'. All were torched, shot up, ran over or played with till death. I'm much better now and would give myself a 75, the Wife a 95.

The digital clock by my bed is 30 years old..and works just like new My stereo System is 30 years old.... My Cloths Dryer is 23 years old.... My Weber BBQ is 27 years old My Salvatore Esspresso Machine is now 6 years old. The TV in my bedroom is 23 years old.. My Refegerator is 19 years old.... MY Washing Machine is 13 years old.... My sofas are 17 years old as well as all my major furniture pieces.. My DD F150 is 11.5 years old My PC is 5 years old.. And I just realized something else I am old tooooooo.

for the last twenty four years i have been using a kitchen-aid mixer that my parents got as a wedding gift in 1949. still works like a charm.

I tend to take care of stuff pretty good.
Got a 1996 Peterbilt with 1,142,000 miles on it. Just hauled 2 Piston Bully snow groomers to Grand Junction,Co. Loaded 2 used ones in El Jebel,Co. and brought them back to our local ski area here.

I've still got the red led alarm clock that I got for Christmas when I was about 13 (12-14, can't remember for sure). That would have been 1983.
I still have some other old stuff, but not tons. I equate a lot of that to having moved around a lot. My dad was in the military, so starting when I was 5 we moved every 1-3 years. We didn't get to keep a lot of stuff. I moved from my parents place to college (dorms) so I didn't have much stuff. After about 5-6 year, I moved from Fl to TX with whatever would fit in my car (not much), so I left a lot behind. For the first many years when I got here, I had hardly any money, so I had to disposable crap. I've got some stereo gear that's from the 1980s and the early 90s. Other than my alarm clock, that's about it. I'd put my self above 50%, but not as high as 90%. I'd never heard of anything like this, and would really need a test of some sort to say for sure.

When my wife moved from Houston to San Diego, she reduced her "stuff" down to 250 lbs, a car, and the car filled with some other stuff.
When we moved from San Diego, a lot of our stuff was sold before moving, to minimize shipping costs, and to help sell the townhouse. I still have my rugs from Pakistan and India (21 yrs old). I keep books, and never let them go. I have some of my toy cars, the ones my mother didn't give away. Baseball cards from the 1970's. Train set from the 1960's Camping gear going back 30 years I had a used Goodall push mower that I bought in the 1970's and used to mow lawns in the neighborhood. When I bought my house, I took it there. I ran it up to 1998, when I moved to a Brownstone which didn't need a lawn mower. My cars are 9 and 10 years old. Is there a link to the test?

I've never bought the 'base' model of anything, & i tend to look after my toys.
