It is simply overwhelming to me how brave the young men are in bomb disposal.
It is humbling to read about young men such as Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid.

A hero to be sure. May he rest in peace.
On a side note, why do they disarm them in the first place. If they have detected it why don't they just destroy it with small arms etc.

I suspect safety is an issue. An unexploded, defused bomb is safer than an unknown bomb that's getting ready to explode.

There's a movie about these EOD teams called The Hurt Locker.
My god. Brass Balls. Rest in Peace, sir.

I work with a bunch of EOD and c-IED people. They are an interesting breed. God speed.
Hurt Locker is "Hollywood-ized" but still has a lot of truth and impact. Kathyrn Bigelow (the director) is very interested in the military and we will hopefully meet with her soon to talk about some of our projects. As for how to dispose of them, it depends on the location and the device. Every situation is different. You don't set off a 500lb deep bury bomb with small arms fire in a populated area... Old friend of mine is nicknamed "Boomer".... he was EOD in the Marines.
"Big brass ones" does not come close to doing him justice but its a start...

There is a reason why I no longer do this sort of work.
Sad.
