Wow. It's a bit of a niche car, but that looks like a blast.

Looks pretty awesome if you ask me. Stripped down, light, fast, exactly what a P car should be.

Be a Boxster hater all you want, but I had a 2002 2.7, and it was a great car. I only got rid of it because I was afraid I was going to lose my license in the damn thing. To my mind, a hell of a lot more of a 'true' Porsche than the fat bloated whale they call the 911 these days.

I like the direction this went it. Good mantra. Very light, use of aluminum... no real top, just a sun shade- people who buy these don't drive much in the rain anyways. Good amount of power... I like. I've toyed with getting a boxster for a few years but always thought I would have more fun with a 951. I'm getting to that point where I like the creature comforts of new cars more and more... and I love the boxster interior. Boxster S prices are getting into my range... so that will probably be my next car.

More now that I am thinking about it: I need to do some analysis on the differing polar moment of inertia about the yaw axis of both a 944 series car and a Boxster. While 944's are generally lighter, and have amazing mass distribution throughout, the engine and trans are far from the CG of the car, and the transaxle's mass is hanging out there beyond the rear axle quite a ways. 944's are extremely 'flickable' cars- and after engineering and subsequently driving small formula cars for some years now, polar moment of inertia is most directly related to 'flickability'... I haven't driven a boxster, but I'd imagine with the engine as close to the CG as it is, and not all that much mass out there at the corners (except the radiators- they are out there a ways, which is a small downside) .... they should be rather responsive. I've been experimenting with data logging yaw sensors usually used in inertial navigation platforms for guided missiles... bolted to race cars. The data, coupled with accelerometer data , gets really, really interesting to disect. I'm getting off topic. But not really. All these things are what makes that Spyder such a good car.

I want one! I didn't read everything yet, but it looks like finally a "special" model with some substance instead of just some graphics and a higher price (aka design edition)..

This is a return of Porsche to the roots of light, well balanced, minimalist type sports cars. This is a driver's car. angela
