No need for an IPOD/Phone-am I odd?
Taking a thought from Paul's post on IPODs.
I don't have a need/want for an IPOD or some fancy shmancy Iphone. I listen to the radio and am perfectly happy. Am I an odd one for not wanting one?

It all depends on what you want. Go with with works for you. I hardly ever use my phone as a music device. I think the iPhone is a perfect extension for people who like iPods and have a cell phone. It combines what you like, into one device. Life is simpler.

I too was a non-believer- until recently. Having gone over to the dark side I have fully embraced my I-Podness. I primarily use it when I am at the gym, and I want to drown out the aweful stuff they pass off as music there. It is also great for travelling- you can drown out the hubub and chaos around you and relax. It is particularly good with noise cancelling headphones. It is ideal for cars. On new cars that have I-pod jacks you don't need CDs, CD players etc. On my old 911 when I retrofit the old AM/FM radio, I will put in a IPOD adapter, and can get music just as if I had a 500 CD changer. Not that I can hear it over the wind and engine mind you, but if I could, I would have options, and that is what it is all about!

I went to get a new phone recently. Walked into the Sprint Store and the counter-bunny was showing me this, that and everything in-between. When I said I only wanted to make calls, she looked at me like I was from Mars. No, I don't want a camera or music or games. I want to make/take calls.
She treated me as I was weird. |

There is a growing group of people who are asking....
How about making a cell phone that works really good instead of packing more and more useless crap onto them? Still waiting... ![]()

I wouldn't say you are odd, I would just make an assumption that you are not as in to listening to music as others may be. As I type this I am taking a short study break. I am sitting in my living room, doing practice finance problems. My iPod is hooked up to my stereo with an aux cable to provide me with some background music. When I leave the house later, I will plug the iPod into my car headunit with the ipod hookup. When I walk to class in the morning, I listen to music on the way. I use my ipod at least 4 hours a day, so I couldn't imagine not having it nor could I imagine hearing commercials on the radio.

I'm pretty addicted to my iPod, but I travel a lot and need something to listen to on the plane, use it at the gym and also at home. There's probably nothing I own that I use more. However, I have no use at all for an iPhone. I don't want my whole life wrapped up in one device that I can lose or smash easily. I will probably buy a second Blackberry soon, since I can't use my work one for personal email and texting. But the iPhone does not interest me in the least.

My girlfriend gifted me her MP3 player... I only use it to kill time went flying, for that it works fine... plugged into my home stereo the sound quality is atrocious.
YMMV

I used to listen to the radio, but over the years it's gotten worse and worse. Too much other crap on besides music.
Being able to listen to the music you want when you want how you want without ridiculous commercials blasting you every 10 minutes. I love my ipod. I listen to my ipod in the car on the way to work, and I listen to my ipod at work. So it probably gets 7-10 hours of work a day 5 days a week. It's a $150 ipod, and it holds a bit over 1200 songs, so I can have a couple of hundred songs of various genre and listen to whatever I'm in the mood for which is nice. I don't think a fancy phone is necessary for everyone, and there's still something that I like about a simple cell phone that does one thing and one thing well (make calls). I do enjoy my smart phone though.

Yes you are absolutely a nut case!
Seriously I was of your opinion until I bought an iphone when they went on sale for $99. Amazing little gadget. I have my music on it, it makes calls very nicely and has one of the best bluetooth packages that I have seen for my car. My other phones used to sometimes not recognize when it was in the car and I would have to manually connect the bluetooth. Not with the iphone. I don't take pictures or make movies, I make phone calls, play some games and keep my music on it.

I was the same way...after all, the 911S had only a 1 speaker am/fm radio...I was quite content with that, and it was usually turned off. Bought a basic prepaid cell phone for use during my road trip when Cindy had the kitchen remodeled. It usually sits on a shelf here, turned off. I take it when we're on the road. I will be renewing it next month, before it's number expires. Use it only to make calls. Turn it on only if I'm making a call or expecting a return call. Look around you....try to spot a pay phone these days.
Ipod? Guess I explained my reasoning on that on the other thread...I liked listening to sirius radio on the Mustang's excellent stereo, but did not like the lack of service, the gouging, when I called about renewing. Screw sirius, I only listened to music channels...they can be replaced with an I-pod. It will probably be used only in the car. I wouldn't say you are odd...But these days, I like the car's stereo...now that I have a car that has a good stereo. An I-pod holds more music than a 6 pack of CD's. Since the plug in jack is there, why shouldn't I use it?

My first cell was a Motorola StarTac.
after that came the Nokia 5110 that everyone and their mother had, then a sony ericsson, and then a Motorola Razr. I've had a Razr ever since it came out. I have gone through 4 of them, all replaced under some sort of warranty or contract renewal. It's still small, and most of all thin- I can't understand how people carry around Iphones. I mean, women have purses.. but I keep my phone in my jean pockets, it has to be small or else it bugs the crap out of me. Also, it needs to be cheap enough that if I lose or break it, I don't care. iPhone...not happening.

Believe it or not some of us survived high school and college without having a cell phone... shocking I know.

No cell, only had one for a year way back when I didn't have access to a landline.
No ipod, no mp3 player, no satellite TeeVee, no radio in the p-car, no nothing. Except for a media player hooked to the TV, which will play just about any downloaded/ripped/torrented file I can throw at it via 1080i upconverted. That's my only real "techo luxury".
