Not in California!

Rifles can't be shorter than 30" and shotguns can't have a shorter than 18" barrel + can't be shorter than 28" over-all. a 870 with a pistol grip only stock and a 18' barrel is longer.

No cans, here!

Here's the carry version- .380:

It's this or a P99 for the bedside gun. Still want the P22 for cheap shooting.

Again: someone really, really needs to make .22 chamber kits for those. F... I should just do it...

Am referring to Federal law, as in BATF.

Could care less what you guys let your silly Kalifornia govt vote in, like your new law coming in Feb that makes you guys get fingerprinted to buy frigging AMMO! How you put up with that crap is beyond me but one of the reasons why I could never come back to Kalifornia.

Leland,

How much trouble was it for you to get the suppressor? Still $200 and paperwork shuffle?

Can you re-do the wipes in your unit or have to send it back in to get worked on?

Sub Sonic ammo is a must have....Any form of suppressor/silencer is class 3 but its not that big of a deal to get one. most people are afraid to try just because they're intimidated by the whole class 3 thing.

Had a friend who 'acquired' a silenced 10/22.... with low velocity ammo, the loudest part was the clack of the bolt return.

He could sit and shoot squirrels sitting next to each other one by one out of his back yard and they never knew what hit em...

Joe, yes you must still submit a NFA form along with a $200 check in order to obtain a tax stamp to the BATFE in order to possess a suppressor. And, I don't think a can has been made since the early 80's that used disposable wipes. You are showing your age, pal.

Seriously, suppressor technology has come a long way in recent years. Most use baffles of varying metal construction. Some are even removable for cleaning and maintenance.

Observations on California Shotgun Law
This is the "Reader's Digest" version of the legalese reproduced down below.
•Shotguns on the assault weapons list are prohibited. This eliminates a total of four "cool looking" shotguns that were big during 1980s / 1990s action movies. You can tell how the legislature formed their opinions of what to ban.
•Revolving cylinders are prohibited on all shotguns. Whether it's pump action or semi-automatic, the existence of a cylinder on a shotgun renders it an assault weapon. Just like the listed shotguns, action movies are responsible for this ban.
•Pump shotguns are pretty safe. Without a revolving cylinder, there's no way for it to become an assault weapon due to having pistol grips, vertical handgrips, etc.
◦Pump shotguns can have pistol grips in California. This is re-stated from above, simply due to the overwhelming number of times folks ask this question.
•Semi-auto shotguns are allowed one "evil feature". This is unlike the rifle and handgun sections of the penal code, and probably reflects the legislature making compromises with hunters within California. This is why the Beretta M3, which a semi-auto shotgun with a pistol grip, is legal for sale in California but the version with a collapsible (i.e. telescoping) stock is not.
•Semi-auto shotguns may never have detachable magazines. This is in contrast to the rifle statute, which allows detachable magazines if there is no pistol grip, folding stock, etc. However, a Saiga-12 imported by an off-list manufacturer and equipped with a bullet button or other legally compliant magazine lock is legal.
•If a shotgun's barrel is less than 18 inches, it's illegal. This is one of the most frequently asked questions about shotguns.
•If a shotgun is less than 26 inches in overall length, it's 'short barreled', even if its barrel is 18" or longer. This is a strange point, but it's in the penal code.

sad, but true. (I did think that it was 28" overall, I was wrong, it's 26") But I won't own a pistol grip only shotgun.

We in California can't have Automatic wepons, silencers, SBR's & AOW

Rick... years ago, when I carried, I started with a .45
I didn't like the bulk and weight, so within two weeks switched to a CZ75.
When the CZ was too much, I carried a PPK.

Sorry for deviating from the topic of spoon mufflers.

You seem to have an attitude problem. Even when you are proven wrong you still confront people and call them your personal family names.

You need professional help... soon.

2008 Dangerous Weapons Control Law

12500 thru 12520 Silencers

CHAPTER 5. FIREARM DEVICES

ARTICLE 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS
  • 12500. The term "silencer" as used in this chapter means any device or attachment of any kind designed, used, or intended for use in silencing, diminishing, or muffling the report of a firearm. The term "silencer" also includes any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling a silencer or fabricating a silencer and any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication.
  • 12501. Section 12520 shall not apply to, or affect, any of the following: (a) The sale to, purchase by, or possession of silencers by agencies listed in Section 830.1, or the military or naval forces of this state or of the United States for use in the discharge of their official duties. (b) The possession of silencers by regular, salaried, full-time peace officers who are employed by an agency listed in Section 830.1, or by the military or naval forces of this state or of the United States when on duty and when the use of silencers is authorized by the agency and is within the course and scope of their duties. You need to read up on what the US Govt says. I could care less about the wacko state of Kalifornia. Its legal to own silencers in the United States, period stop. If you are silly enough to live in a state that prohibits them, move but stop your whining about something that you could vote down if you had the backbone.

~~~~~
Q: The types of firearms that must be registered in the National Firearm Registration and Transfer Record are defined in the NFA and 27 CFR, Part 479. What are some examples?
Some examples of the types of firearms that must be registered are:
* Machine guns;
* The frames or receivers of machine guns;
* Silencers and any part designed and intended for fabricating a silencer;
* Short-barreled rifles;
[26 U.S.C. 5845]
Q: How can an individual legally acquire NFA firearms?
Basically, there are 2 ways that an individual (who is not prohibited by Federal, State, or local law from receiving or possessing firearms) may legally acquire NFA firearms:
1. By transfer after approval by ATF of a registered weapon from its lawful owner residing in the same State as the transferee.
2. By obtaining prior approval from ATF to make NFA firearms.
[27 CFR 479.62-66 and 479.84-86]
Q: What is the tax on making an NFA firearm?
The tax is $200 for making any NFA firearm, including “any other weapon.”
Q: How is this tax paid?
A money order or check made payable to the Bureau of ATF together with the application forms are to be mailed to the Bureau of ATF, NFA Branch.
