Your favorite "Movie Cliches"

For instance, have you ever noticed that no matter how new or old the car (or motorcycle) the brakes will softly squeak when the driver pulls to a stop?

Or, if it rained as hard as it does in the movies, we would all be driving Arks not Porsches.

Or, if the phone rings in the background, it is always germaine to the plot?

To quote the late, great Jackie Gleason, as Sheriff Buford T. Justice in Smokey and the Bandit, when asked "How is that germaine to the situation?"

"What do the G.D. Germans have to do with it?"

Classic line. Classic silly movie.

I think what Herr Oberst meant is that it's spelled "germane..."

Not to be too petty but the line is:

Sheriff Brandford: "The fact that you are a Sheriff is not germaine to the situation."

Then, of course, Jackie Gleason's line back to him about the GD germans.

On topic: Tires squealing on dirt ala Dukes of Hazzard.

Back on topic in the off-topic post:

No matter the surface -- asphalt, concrete, gravel, dirt -- in movies cars always squeal around corners and when jamming on the brakes.

By way of Roger Ebert - there's always a parking spot right in front of where the protagonist needs to be. They never have to drive through the streets or parking garages looking for a spot.

Sorry, too quick a glance at signatures. I believe Mister Oberst's post was just above or below yours.

So, Wilson, you're the volleyball in that Tom Hanks movie about the FedEX crash?

Wow, you are sharp today. I live alone in an isolated region, and my only companion is a cat, Wilson (named after the volleyball character in "Castaway"). Hence, Wilson The Cat...

Anybody who loves cats is okay in my book. We have three in if not an isolated region at least rural--two now-domesticated ferals and a pound adoptee.

Often the second the wheels are off the ground when a car goes over a cliff it will explode.

How about then a guy crawls thru A/C ductwork. It is smooth and shinny.
Never any turning vanes, dampeners, insulation, etc, etc. And he always can get the grill out from inside the ductwork. Never any flex duct, always hard duct.

When carving a swastika in someones' forehead, there is never any spurting. And the arms are pointed the correct way, doesn't seem to be any need for a do-over.

Whenever someone is coming to a stop and gets out of the car (at night) they always walk away from the car with the headlights turned on.

-Bullets spark on everything/never seem to go through auto panels/bad guys are bad shots with full auto at 10 meters
-There's never traffic during those cross-town emergencies.
-No matter what vehicle, it will always have serious oversteer.
-Old folks dining on the sidewalk are suprisingly observant and nimble.
-The victim is always in the other room when the phone rings.

Glad I could help.

I know that movie too well. My friend and I used to recite the lines almost daily and laugh our a$$es off.

The music starts as soon as the plumber/pizza guy/cop shows up at the door.

Oh...we're not discussing those movies?

Nevermind...
