Matt barkley still sucks
He's still impressing the heck out of everyone by throwing the ball so hard and so high that the only ones who can catch his passes are the other team.
He has as many interceptions as touchdowns and he isn't done yet. But he has a good smile ![]() He should have been riding the pine all season. |

Oh, come now. all the USC wanks thought he was the second coming at the beginning of the season. Pete must be losing it. No discipline this year.

did you notice how many new people there were on the team. I think next year will tell. I am surprised they did this good. I wanted more but didn't expect so much. New coaches, new players. It will get much better. Or, it has to get much better.

Problem was their defense wasn't up to par.

Weren't you the one posting earlier this year about Barkley doing just about everything short of walking on water?
It seemed like your only concern about him was that he might leave in the middle of the season to go take an NFL team to the Superbowl. What happened? |

If so, then the answer is no freaking way. Not even. Just the opposite. I'm the one who wanted Corp to keep the starting job and wanted Barkley to sit for a couple of years. Do a search on it. Here's one from 9.12.09: Quote:

USC could have Tom Brady on thier team , and they still would not be able to beat a mediocre SEC team

For the first time in years, I haven't had to listen to the pundits wax poetic about how spectacular a 1 or 2 loss USC team is and how THEY deserve to go to the BCS title game over an superior Big12 or SEC team.

I'd love to see USC play in the Humanitarian bowl on the blue Boise State turf. Hell, I might even drive over to watch that!

AFAIK Pete carroll darn near walks on water but I think he blew it on this one. He figured barkley would help recruiting of offensive linemen, big fast wide recievers, etc.
Barkley has strong skills and he has the brains, he will eventually be a very, very good quaterback. He just aint there yet. Maybe by the time he's a junior. Unfortunately an 8-4 record wiped out anything that Barkley added to the mix. They have to rebuild the defense and strengthen the offense, I don't think they'll get it done in one year. Next year will prolly be another dissapointment, maybe the year after that. The defense did their job against Arizona but the offense didn't. |

Play calling, particularly on the offense, was horrible all year. It began with Washington, and went downhill from there.
The defense was good up to a point, though I can't really say why Stanford ripped USC a new one on the Trojan's home turf -- I didn't see the game. Carroll does walk on water -- not just for USC, but for L.A. And that I believe, has gone to his head. The problem is he's wedged himself into the position of "institution." Alumnus love him. He'll be very difficult to get rid of/replace. As to the quarterback situation, truly Barkley was not ready. But Carroll hadn't the facilities to get a viable alternative after Sanchez. Carroll supposedly begged Sanchez not to leave, but hey, when the NFL calls, one should listen. Sanchez isn't doing too badly. The Jets are 6-6, which is one hell of a lot better than Brady Quinn and the Browns, which are what, 1-11?
