Motor Meister - On the Up and Up
I was goofing off and searched "Motor Meister" on eBay.
Anyhow, at the bottom of their store page I read this: New Motor Meister Facility for 2010! On behalf of the Motor Meister Crew we want to thank our customers for helping us grow after 15 years and now we are able to move to a new larger facility for 2010! Motor Meister's offices are 4 times larger, a new clean engine building room, chassis dyno, from 2 lifts to 6 lifts and double the square footage inside and two separate yards. ------------------------------------------ With all of the complaints how can this be? Not to mention the downturn in the economy. Crazy. |
Doesn't mean their quality of work is any better...

Who the eff funds these people? They apparently must have some??? satisfied clients to grow. Do we only hear the horror stories? I would never send my engine... just wondering.

Seems funny to me that MM can be bashed in an open forum but other rip off artists are somewhat protected from any bad mouthing.
|
A guy I know told me about how he sent them his 911 S engine and for $15k, he got back a partially rebuilt 911 T engine that smoked and leaked oil. What a deal!
Who funds this company? The last time I was on rennlist (quite a while ago) MM was a major advertiser. I posted a question of how can that be given their horrible reputation? I got flamed big time. It wasn't allowed to question the dunkmeister, or anyone who put money in his pockets. No matter how big a rip off they are. |
It's a Conspiracy, I tell you, ...a Conspiracy!!

Right sammyg2, maybe only Rennlisters send their engines there. How many suckers born every minute can there really be?
More's to the point, I find it so hard to believe that this many Porsche engines need rebuilding every month! But obviously they manage to not only stay in business, but thrive! |

It was an example of how MM uses it's advertising budget to recruit the mechanically ignorant, and folks who know better act as accomplices by ignoring the facts because of $$$$$. IIRC they used to advertise in Panorama also. Lots O' PCA members out there and many of em aren't familiar with wrenches. Letters were written to PCA about that, PCA said basically it was none of our business. |
Same way hennessey (the tuner, not the liquor) stays in business.
Just mind-boggling. |

With all the bad press I hear about them, I have no idea where they manage to get all their customers - obviously Rennlist is one place, if negative posts about them are closed down. I haven't seen any magazine ads for some time either. But what really blows my mind is the amount of engines they must be rebuilding, unless their core business is parts and rebuild kits. |

Guys, I'm really confused. The nice folks over on the PARF Forum insist that markets are "efficient" in the sense that the natural forces of supply and demand reliably keep businesses honest and require that businesses, at least over the long haul, provide maximum value. They say that these forces are enough (again, at least in the long haul) to ensure that poor quality sellers and sellers who are dishonest and/or unscrupulous cannot cheat consumers effectively over an extended time frame. Regulations, they say, are unnecessary because these "efficient" market forces are.....efficient.

And the BAR has done nothing to stop MM or to help people who have been ripped off by them.
The efficient market is by FAR the consumer's best chance against companies like MM. In fact, these days, anyone who gets ripped off by MM, for the most part, IMO deserves it. They are an ignorant, lazy consumer. Anyone who is going to agree to drop their engine off, or send it cross country, for a $10K rebuild, without doing ANY due diligence (like, umm, taking .002 second on a Google search) on who they are about to enter into this major transaction with, is not a responsible player in the free market. Maybe people don't bother with any research, instead relying on the mighty BAR to save them in the event things go sideways. After all, with the largest, most expensive consumer auto repair agency in the world, how could anything go wrong? |

I am sure MM had done many a crap jobs over the years and bad business pratices to boot. How many of you guys here really have experiences in doing business with them for you to make judgement and bad mouth them. Just saying. Bad $hit spread like wide fire in these forums. I am not saying any of you are wrong but so many of you are across the country and have had NO dealings with them but bad mouth MM just to bad mouth. I personally will not do business with them but I also will not say anything bad about them. I will suggest someone to look elsewhere for a better shop. There's another shop local here that screwed lots of people and never get work done. They also have many law suits against them but not so much talk here, why? Some of you local boys may know him. His lot and garage is always full and he's backed up for months. Makes you wonder why.
I tell you this. I know of 2 people that had their flat motor rebuilt by MM and they have not leak oil or blown up yet. they had their cars for 7-10 years now. Just saying, that all. Again, not trying to defend MM. |
