Coke machine and POR-15

My old (circa 1951) coke machine is beginning to show a few signs of rust in the condensate pan, particularly around the evaporator. I am thinking that coating the pan with silver POR-15 should stop any rust that is there and prevent any future rust. Anyone see any problems with this or have a better solution??

If it were mine I would sand and treat the rust with Ospho and then spray over it with cold galvanized... wow, didn't realize you were in aransas...cool maybe we can meet up at a Cabanis field event sometime... "C" town used to be my old stomping grounds...

I've had this machine 15+ years. IIRC I paid $250 for it. The compressor was replaced around 10 years ago and I completely rewired it and replaced all the door seals right after that. I wired in a 4" box fan to blow on the condensor coils when the compressor is running, this really cut down on the compressor run time. Other than that, it is completely original.

The grandkids love it and can't believe that is how small Cokes used to be. (And most everyone agrees that Coca-Cola in glass bottles tastes much better than canned or plastic). (Truth be told, we would be a lot better off if they still came in 6 or 8 oz bottles rather than 44 oz. Big Gulps)

Two downsides: (1) it is a money losing proposition, the glass bottles are nearly a buck apiece and (2) you have to remember to empty the condensate jar every couple of days during the summer.

Will definitely look at the cold galvanized spray also.

I keep thinking I need to make it over to Cabanis Field and get involved in some more serious driving with the 911. Between completely remodeling the house since moving here from SA and throwing money at that hole in the water called a sailboat, I just haven't made the time to do it. Not to mention that all the parts to rebuild the front suspension have been sitting in the workshop for a year now.

I live near Harlingen now, in the valley... but went to college in Corpus... I haven't been to Cabanis in years, but have been meaning to find out when the next open wheel event is... The last one I went to was awesome...

Costco around these parts sells the Mexican Coke with cane sugar. It seems a little less carbonated than the HFCS Coke - which is nice.

All the grocery stores around here sell the Mexican Coke (but not the kind that comes through Jaurez ). Unfortunately the bottles are to long to fit in a machine designed for the old 6 oz. bottles.

You used to be able to buy the 6 oz. returnable bottles of real coca-cola in Mexico but with the drug wars on the border I wouldn't venture back to Nuevo Laredo to find out if they still do or not.

You can find Coke in 12 oz glass bottles with REAL SUGAR at Mexican grocery stores around here. It tastes SOOOO much better than coke with high fructose corn syrup. The Mexican coke is pretty expensive though. I think it's about $1.50/12 oz bottle.

I love those old Coke machines!!! I have looked for one for ages, but they're all too expensive or in need of serious repair!

I finally settled for my own version. It currently is dispensing Coke Zero, hard cider and beer.

Cool machine! If I had something like that I would have to save the old coke bottles and bottle some homebrew
