I just looked at a wide sampling of the centerfolds and it is also interesting that the overall looks of the girls has become less appealing - at least to this old guy - as the time has passed. Funny, the appeal of the looks seems to not interest me as much past 1988-90. Not to say I'd kick any of the current ones outta the sack, mind you, but the Overall Appeal just ain't the same. (Like I'd have a shot, anyway ) |
About 1971-72 I got some offer in the mail to subscribe to some magazines, at really discounted rates. I chose; Car and Driver, Esquire, Playboy and I forget the others. I dropped most after the first year - but I continued the Car and Driver and Playboy.
The writings in the Car and Driver editorials (and car tests) in the 1970's were exceptional. D. Davis and his crew had the ability to make you feel you were riding in the seat next to them. Though my heart was always into Drag Racing, those years for C&D were golden for anyone that had any passion for cars and loved reading about them. I recall when Penthouse and Hustler came out in the 1970s. Much more graphic and less refined, their appearance drove Hef to start including the "rug" shots, I assume to keep up? I still have stored, in two large steamer-trunks (and some other containers), every issue of C&D and Playboy from about 1971-72 through 1982. *In 1982 Hef turned over the business to his daughter. For some reason, a woman at the head of 'Playboy' just didn't sit well from me, so I canceled. Oh and by then I had been married for six years and the magazine that came in the plain brown slip-cover was frowned upon - with increasing regularity, so.... |

I agree..."The girl next door" (We wished so, anyway) became "Hooker of the month". I quit subscribing mid 90's...when I realized that my daughter was older than most of the Playmates... |
