What makes Slabs great?

I think it's the fact that they require minimal formwork and are relatively easy to get level/floated. Also it's really easy and simple to get the expansion joints in place. At least the "on-grade" variety.

Yeah but if you got one of those 70's tract homes like my parents where they laid the plumbing inside the slab... then you get a leak... then you have to chip it out... not so great.

How you liking the north east Jeff?

I ***love*** how the slab of my driveway is incrementally (like 1/4 inch) higher than the slab of my garage. It's freakin' great for the few times we have rain here in SoCal.

My builder wanted $5,000 to the the 35' x 22' slab in front of my 48' x 32' garage. I framed it myself, used my brothers tractor to spread gravel, rented a compactor and hired my own finisher....My total cost was $2,200.
