So what about Singapore - what's not to like there?

I'd like to live in a country that follows the Constitution of the United States of America...as written, not as perverted by left wing courts.

I have lived in Europe for over 7 years, but was sure glad to get back to the States- and I didn't even have to pay their ridiculously high taxes.

I can't believe that three pages into this no one has mentioned Texas. Check out the advertising slogan "Texas, it's a whole other Country"

Great roads, motorsport parks, low taxes, lovely women, friendly, good gun laws. No surprise it is one of the fastest growing states in the Country. Good thing the rest of the world hasn't figured this out (except Mexico)

This thread reminds me of the joke. Goes something like this:

In Heaven:

The French are the cooks, the British are the police, the Italians are the lovers, the Germans build the cars, and the Swiss run the government.

In Hell:
The British are the cooks, the Germans are the police, the Italians run the government, the French build the cars, and the Swiss are the lovers

No humidity for me, TYVM!
Born/raised in No. Dakota - big time humidity.

I read recently in a different forum, a few points on this very subject WRT where to live in the USA - a few folks mentioned that SoCal weather can be found in parts of SE Arizona. Anyone know about this...opinions?

Yes, Yes Yes! A wonderful instrument.
It looks like some form of the "Tea Party" movement will have a say in the coming elections. The citizen/voter/taxpayer, whether realized or not, seems to be at war with both parties. That country of which you speak just could be right here one day...'depends on how many Americans refuse to come out from under the influence of apathy.

Absolutely.

But it's not just the humidity. Also the heat.

And once you have bought a car for about 4 times what it would cost in the US, you have no place to drive it.

Singapore is also not very free. One bad word spoken against the government means jail time. No chewing gum. The list goes on. It ain't Hemmingway's Singapore, anymore.

Switzerland is pretty perfect IMO. I lived there for six years and we still have a place there.

The location in the middle of Europe is perfect. You can have lunch in France and dinner in Italy. Taxes are low. It's pretty as can be, and very cosmopolitan.

It's probably the most democratic place on earth. Decisions on most major social issues are made by referendum. The political system works well. The media is intelligent. Everyone speaks three or four languages. Education is great. Health care superb.

Crime is low and the police efficient. Government departments are incredibly efficient. (Many government offices have large signs that say; "If you have been waiting for more than 10 minutes, please complain!")

The downside? It's very expensive.

Those days are gone. Singapore has liberalized enormously in the last 10 years.

Australia would be it for me, maybe New Zealand. Either way, I ain't eatin' any Vegemite.

The problem is the California phermones. Once you are out from under the influence, you will see the fake tinsel on top of the real tinsel.

The weather is not a good justification to live in a Socialist State.

Having never actually step foot in country - probably in a wine region of Australia. I've seen enough on TV to warrant at least a try. Though I have a soft spot for the EU I don't see raising my family there.

Switzerland may be pretty, but not a place to live unless you are born and raised there. The majority of the population is highly xenophobic. You will always be an outsider there. I know people who lived there for decades. They hang out with other foreigners - not with any Swiss.

That's what makes the US great. The country is truly diverse and there are none of those old money and social structures that are impenetrable.

The produce is pretty GD good too, though largely secondary to the climate.

Where do you think they hide the phermones! It is a conspiracy to keep people there!

BTW, I agree about the produce, but that won't get me back to California either.
