Wife, Gun Permit and Mexico
My wife has been flip flopping on helping me with the Mexican Pistol Permit. Yes Virginia, guns ARE allowed in Mexico, but the process isn't easy.
Yesterday, she came to me, unprompted, with new and viable ideas on how to get said permit. Wow! Just when you think you know someone!

90% of my export sales are to Mexico, and my wife was born in Mexico. I make 3-10 trips per year to Mexico.

When you go to Mexico with a gun, the other people will always have bigger guns and more guns. but, when I drove to Costa Rica I had two guns hidden in the truck for the entire trip. It is obvious I didn't get caught.

Yep, and what is the first rule about a gun fight?
I'm not planning on getting into any trouble. I just want the ability to defend myself and my family as I do legally in the US.

What caliber gun do you carry there? I know that all "military calibers" are totally banned.

A friend's Dad went hunting down there a while back. He forgot to register the 2 rifles in the holders of their quads. He spent over $30K in fees (bribes) and about 2 weeks in jail. He still does not have his trailer or quads back, let alone the guns.

They changed the laws a few years back about an inadvertant round or two of ammo. But I expect it will be a "bribe your way out", situation.
.38 Spl, .380ACP and .38 Super are supposed to be the largest calibers. I will probably carry a .357 sig, and tell them it is smaller than .380. If that will be an issue, I will carry a .32NAA.
