Nope. Strictly speaking a decade is just a ten year period. We don't count decades like we do centuries, or millenia. ...still the 209th decade? --no one counts them like that. If they did, you'd have a point. But, since we refer to the 60's, 70's 80's ... just go with it.

I like to think of the calendar as starting at year zero, just as we are when we are born. We are not 1 until one year after our birth. Therefore, the first decade would have been from 0 to 9, etc.

Technically, from a scientific viewpoint the new decade starts at 2011. There is no such thing as year 0. It starts with 1 and thus, 2010 is the 10th year of the first decade.

There were 365 days between 2000 and 2001. That is a full year. When you get to 2009, it has already been 9 full years, and when you get to 2010, that is ten full years since zero, or 2000.

9 years, 365 days = 2010. There will be ten full years from 2010 to 2020. Counting years doesn't start until 2011. One is one.

You guys are kidding, right ?

The ROW doesn't see 2010 as the last year of the first decade so go with the flow unless you like to start discussions at parties.

Not so sure I like this viewpoint...I guess, scientifically speaking, I was born in the 1950s....all this time I thought I was a child of the 60s.

Damn; now I feel really old.

Because there is no zero in Roman numerals.

The calendar started in year I. The third millennium started in 2001. The "next" decade starts in 2011.

I'm going with this being a new decade. AFAIC, 1950 is part of the 50s, etc. I'm not going with it being part of the 40s. Noooooooot happening.
