Introducing my new pups

A few of you may have read some of my posts on dog & pup threads. I lost my Manchester Terrier in 07' after 15 years and my retriever mix this past summer. Thought it was about time to get another. Well after looking at the litter of 5, how can you pick just one. I picked them up last night.
Here are Mad Maxx and Colbi, Australian Cattle Dogs. Maxx is the lighter one. He's a brute. While Colbi is a little lady, just beautiful color. Maybe I can train them to herd my chickens
Oh and btw... I blame you Vinman!!!!

Oh my god those two are cute!! Are you going to take them to hearding classes when the get a little older? I have an Australian Kelpie and he LOVES thaos classes!! It's also really cool to see their natural instincts come out when they are out with the sheep.

Good luck,
Michael

Great pups!

We have an Aussie Healer, right up there with my Black Lab Earl, sadly gone.

They are high energy and will connect with only one in the family, to the deference of others...plan on a lot of training time and getting out. They need to run.

Here's Cassie, one we rescued:

They are intuitive, smart and aware.

Congrats. Yep...either you or your wife will have to quit your job to make sure they're well socialized! This advice comes from one with a 14 week old Mastiff puppy who is crawling into our hearts more every day. Enjoy every minute. They're definitely keepers!

Yes, you can definately teach them to herd chickens but the first lesson is to NOT EAT the chickens...

My mom has trained a couple of dozen herding dogs (mostly border collies). She starts all the young dogs out with ducks. When they learn their commands with the ducks, then they move up to goats, then sheep and finally cattle. It really helps a young dog develop confidence. Alot of the hot-shot trainers around here laugh at her for taking these extra steps but it's hard to argue with 100% herding success where others complain of "bad" dogs who are timid, excessively aggressive or "won't work."

LOL Happy to oblige!

Mark, they are beautiful! You must be a glutton for punishiment, getting two of them. Just my one is a handful! Way too much energy, he is a little psycho. Toby just got his last series of shots the other day, so now he can be around other dogs. took him to Petco the other day, ran right up to two huge Boxers. absolutely no fear. You made a good choice. Good luck with them.

Toby says hello!

Sorry Todd I didn't see your post. Yes the ACD was bred with the Dingo to help it deal with the harsh environment. Couldn't resist posting this picture...
