Reading through this thread, are we all in agreement that the following should get the same treatment as Pete Rose?

McGuire
Bonds
A. Rod
Manny
etc.

I don't know. Rose is banned for lying to the commisioner. We don't know that any of those people did that. For all we know they all told the truth to the comissioner and then plead the fifth before Congress.

^ In my opinion, betting isn't nearly as damaging to the image of baseball as taking drugs or cheating.

And not to mention, these guys lied in one form or another (didn't some of them do lie in court too?).

An excellent athlete who still refuses to take full responsibility. LaRussa was on ESPN apologizing for McGuire. Stated He only used steroids for Medicinal reasons. To stay healthy not hit dingers.

These guys just keep making it worse by heaping on the lies. Pete Rose should be welcomed into the hall on a red carpet. He did nothing to falsify his own skill-set as a baseball player. Dopers need to be shown the door. They're paid to be role models....by MLB and all their multi-million dollar sponsorship contracts to which they are grossly in breach.

I'm not saying it's right, I'm just pointing out the difference between McGuire and Rose. For all we know, McGuire was completely and fully honest with the comissioner.

Personally I think McGuire should be allowed to work in baseball, but his records (as well as the other 'roiders) be stricken. I think McGuire will make an excellent hitting coach, and I think having him around but having his records tossed will act as a cautionary tale for current players...

Selig has also made it clear the conditions under which Rose can return to baseball: full and complete honesty. Every couple of years Rose writes a book and admits to a little more, but I don't know that he has admitted it all. My impression is that Selig knows exactly what went down and is just waiting for Rose to say it. When he really comes clean, allow him on the Hall of Fame ballot. If he never comes fully clean, then don't reinstate him until he dies.

Here's my home run king list:

1 - Hank Aaron - no doubt about it. No cheating, just consistent hammering
2 - Babe Ruth - changed the way the game was played! But did it against competition that did not include Blacks or Hispanics!
3 - Josh Gibson - hit anywhere between 500 and 1,000 home runs. Records were not reliable and he didn't hit against any of the star white players of his era (because of segregation).
4 - Willie Mays - my favorite player and a bona fide 5 tool major leaguer! 660 home runs w/o juice.
5 - Ken Griffey - 630 and counting. Still active. Never a hint of steroids
6 - Barry Bonds - 762 home runs and a disgrace to the game, but he could focus like no other. He juiced his way to both the single season and career leads, but he was a cheater (both on the field and off), a liar and an a-hole. He basically hit for the cycle in character deficiencies!

My money's on the Cards front office making this a condition of employment. They as much as said so.
Using steroids is not uncommon to treat injuries.

Probability he takes at least one at bat? That would remove him from the Hall of Fame ballot for a few years while this 'blows over'.

I have to believe that he has a way to avoid prosecution, or at least conviction.
