Mark McGuire finally comes clean
Admits today that he used steroids including the season where he broke the home run record.
|
Was there any doubt?
|
He and Sosa should be stripped of their records, have all their achievements(ALL of them) expunged from the baseball history books, and be forever labeled as CHEATS.
Bonds too, but he deserves to be in prison on top of it. |

I was/am a huge Mark McGwire fan. He was hitting home runs way before he used the roids. He hit 49 his rookie year, and was a twig compared to when he retired.
Do i think taking steroids is right, No. Did the 'roids help him? Sure. Could he have hit them w/o the roids? More than likely. Did they extend his career? Of course. Was he the only one taking them? NO. Many players who were good/great during the roid era were good before they took them. McGwire, Bonds, Clemens and many more were all stars before they bulk'd up. Yes, Alot of players became stars because of them. Did him taking them help baseball? WITHOUT A DOUBT. The summer of 1998 was magical, and helped save baseball. Baseball was in the toilet after the strike years. Everywhere you went people were talking about the HR chase. Even Cnn had a HR tracker in the corner of their broadcast. That summer had that magical feel that you see in old movies about baseball. He should be judged as a player of his era, yes the Steroid Era. He was one of the best during his era and deserves to be in the Hall. |
You mean......you're telling me that......that.......he used STEROIDS?

Joe Jackson played his heart out. But cheated. And he was banned. Rightfully so. "The Game" should be about more than records and winning. I think fondly of guys like Gwynn and Ripkin. They were baseball players. McGuire, Bonds, etc are "stars" and cheaters. Not baseball players. They stopped being one the minute they jabbed the needle in their ass. |
Of course this has nothing to do with setting an example for the youth of today, no. It's all me, me, me.

Anyone who thinks Bonds, McGuire or Sosa could cave touched those records without steroids does not understand steroids... AT ALL. Here are the legitimate all time and single season home run champs; http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1263257245.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1263257258.jpg |

Not surprised at all by this announcement.
It looks like the steroids hurt his career as much as it helped him hit record HRs. He could have been in the Hall of Fame easily if he stayed clean. |
What drugs am i on,
i just stated some things most people with half a brain could have recognized. He hit 33 homeruns by the allstar break when he was a rookie, no roids. Its not like he went from hitting 12 hrs a year to 70. What you dont agree with me that the roids helped him??? |
He would have never come close to touching any of those records without the roids. Steroids and the cheaters that employed them did not help baseball. Do not lose sight of long term implications over what you percieve to be short term "gains."
He is a disgrace to himself, his teams, his profession, and his family. He belongs in jail IMO. |

A bunch of people feel this way about Pete Rose... and, if it's good enough for Petey, it's good enough for Markie and every other cheat on the block! |
