use to use one at work survey transit
currently old teck bordering on obsolete junk now
too many dumped on the market in the last few years
plus housing price collapse
so other then a decoration not much value

the county sold them off surplus at 100-150 each
minor value variations by maker and if sub minute vernier
but sorry no real treasure

Clean it up, find the wooden tripod that goes with it, and use as decor at home..

I have odds and ends old engineering boating stuff around my house, and old sextant,, level.. been looking for a transit.

Actually, that's still very useful. Maybe not if you want to make a living as a surveyor, but if you ever do any building projects on your own, it is still good for a lot of things. I have one that I have used countless times over the last 2 decades.

Cool.

Clean it up, use it as a decorative piece for a few decades and then... who knows.

Did I mention, cool?

It is still useable, it will turn angles, give line, and you could use it as a level. But, if you are going to use it more than twice you might want to buy something newer and easier to use. Forget the legs it will take up to much room, just set in on a shelf.

Here is one I have. It's a Gurley 1911 or so. Wish someone would offer me something for it.

I have the box and tripod too.

Darn, I had a tripod that would've matched up until a couple years ago.

You had to be an engineer to level one of those beasts!
Oh, now I'm dating myself

I used mine for fencing and landscaping. It's a nice tool to have. Just make a tripod for it.

i had a tripod...i took it part to clean up the brass, and refinish the wood...my pot head room-mates scattered the parts to the wind.

i'll find another. i was going to make a lamp out of the tripod...

If you live in Vegas, take it to the chowderheads at Pawn Stars - you might end up on TV!

Here is mine. I got it from my grandpa who was a builder when he passed. I did some research and found it was only worth a couple hundred. I will keep it and use as it was my grandpa's.
