Found a great new beer

W'10 Pitch Black IPA from Widmer Brothers, Portland, OR.

You can not see light through this beer and the taste is kind of a Porter-ish IPA. I've never had anything like it. It's a very relaxing 6.5%.

Widmer Brothers - Drink Responsibly

Highly recommended by me!

Black patent malt and a Sierra Nevada hop schedule. 65 IBU's. iiiiiiick. Freaking hop heads. Drink your pale ales and leave the dark beers alone. You can't have your cake and eat it too! j/k, can't wait to try it.

Rich, one of the partners at the law firm at work at is a supplier of this beer. Actually, it's her husband...Widmer produces some very tasty brews.

the widmer bros. opened up a microbrew pub in Bellingham, I know it well. But hard to compete with Boundary Bay 2 blocks over! There IPA is the bomb! And growlers are $9!

+1

Have never had the opportunity to try the pitch black IPA, but the Widmer varieties that I have tried have been quite good.

Go to Weed California and sample some of their local brewery's product. YUM!

This little brewery fought the State of California over their motto "Drink Legal Weed" and won!

What a great little place, I will be back!!

I had this over the Holidays and it's a good brew. Black Boss Porter from Poland with a mighty 9.4% alcohol..

Yeah, the pitch black IPA is pretty tasty. I was getting really tired of winter ales... it seems like there are a lot of them this year.

I'm a big IPA fan and I have to agree that Boundary Bay has struck a fine balance. I sometimes get up to Bellingham, but have never visited the brewery. I feel ashamed. I wonder if you would be willing to assist me in remedying the problem.

Ya got to be in the mood for blacks. They're good, but they can be overpowering if you're in the mood for an "accent" brew. That said, I do like one occasionally and may need to check this one out.

One of the most "hearty" brews I've ever had was a Russian Imperial Stout by Goose Island Brewery in Chicago. Very, very robust and dark beer - but also perfect for a cold Chicago winter night and accompanying a hearty meal.

Sam Adams Black Lager is another good one to check out if you're into "trying out a black thing".

I'll reserve my comments about "once you go black, you'll never go back".
