Airport security A lesson we should heed?

In the US, there are appx 28.5K commercial airline flights per day carrying appx 1.9MM passengers. Whatever airline safety system we use has to be able to deal with that volume. For example, every El Al flight has an armed security person(s) aboard - could we do that? (For the bomber who intends suicide anyway, how much of a deterrent is death?)

I'm OK with what they do. And I'd pay a few more bucks for a plane ticket to fund Sky Marshals. I think we all know that in today's age, a few ounces of PETN or some other explosive and an electronic detonator can be swallowed and never detected by a scanner or chemical sniffer.
