Funny BMW commentary

This is usually a semi-political cartoon, but this is a commentary on Bangle...

ah. i've seen the term elsewhere and didn't get it.

the new bmw's are rather ugly, with that swoopy BS "styling" down the side. what were they thinking?

Has Bangle left BMW?

The 2011 5-series looks a little less 'folded and spindled'.

As the owner of a year-old 535xi I can tell you the looks aren't the worst part of a BMW. The controls are the worst of any car I've ever owned, and I've owned a Citroen DS-21. I thought I would get used to them but after a year+ they feel just as weird and goofy as they did when I first drove the car. I hate this car.

I agree completely. I've been a Porsche nut for years and have owned 5 of em. I bought the M Coupe, a variant of the pictured car above 3 months ago. More fun than any street 911 I've driven. I'm actually working on an RSR project so Porsche can regain the funnest vehichle ever in my mind. Back on topic, Bangle is/was controversial, but the M Coupe takes me back to the Shelby Daytona Coupe in a way. Differences from above, two creases in the hood and a more agressive front valance. Cheers!

What exactly do you hate? I have an 08 550i and never really had any problems with the Idrive. In fact, I find other newer cars lacking with features compared to BMW. The Bluetooth works flawlessly, along with the intergrated Ipod and Sat radio. I am sure there are those that want a car that completely removed of any complicated interfaces, but if you want all these features you need someway to access all of them. Take a look at BMW's or Mercedes about 10 years ago and the only way to achieve this was to put about 30 buttons on the dash. I'll sacrifice a couple steps to have a cleaner interior. It is easy to jump on the "I hate Bangle, I hate Idrive" bandwagon. This is my 4th BMW in 10 years. It won't be my last.

I test drove both the Z3 and Z4 when I was car shopping (wanted a 2-seat roadster). Both are nice cars, reasonably comfortable, etc. The Z4 looks awful from the outside, but I did like its layout internally and its performance. What really put me off about BMW in general was the over-presence of electronic stuff in the cabin. WAY too much. I know they intend it as "conveniences" and "amenities", but all I could see was lots of dollar signs tied up in unnecessary things that would eventually break.

I settled on the Mercedes SLK because of looks (decent looking car, albeit a bit girlish) and the fact that it looks/acts like a real roadster should. There aren't ten gazillion buttons all over the interior. It's basic and simple. The gearbox is an honest-to-goodness 6-speed manual, not a gussied up slushbox with a bunch of more expensive electronics-to-break shoved into it. I just trust it more. And it hasn't let me down.

Yeah, BMW builds a decent car but one has to consider not just the up-front cost, but the down-the-road recurring costs of ownership, and the BMWs just scared the hell out of me because of all the extra bells, whistles and dancing clowns. And the Z4 looks butt ugly - did I mention that? The Z3 is kinda' weird too. Of the three, the Mercedes is definitely the nicest-looking and unpretentious of them.
