For Ikea shoppers

YouTube - Ikea

Strong language advisory...but nothing we haven't all said.

I've bought one piece of IKEA furniture: a CD/DVD rack. Within two years, the shelves had warped so much that each shelf was resting on the CDs on the shelf below it. We threw the thing out and forever swore off particle board furniture.

I build myself a new CD/DVD rack out of pine, and haven't looked back. I either buy quality, or build it myself.

Did you watch the video? It's hysterical! True Tim Taylor stuff.

Haha! That was funny.

I've put together stuff from Ikea before & it doesn't take a genius to follow the instructions.

It's also easier if you're organized.

Pretty funny. Ikea causes Tourette's syndrome in many people.

• Damn funny.

• That guy's wife sounds like a keeper.

well if you buy the stuff made from solid wood you wouldnt have this issue. all the solid pine stuff i have works just fine and was easy to put together.

i have maybe a dozen pieces of ikea stuff and other than the cheap particle board dresser, all have been great...the dresser was just a stop gap till i got something better (other than the sagging drawers which i have probably overloaded anyway) it has held up just fine.

but their cheap stuff is much better than what you will find at all the other big box store.

what i hate the most is the dam maze you have to walk through just to get to the cashier after you have found what you need.

serves him right for sending his dollars to another country who sells cheap crap. People buy that crap just because they have cool modern stores. JUNK!! might as well buy your furniture at Target.

My Ikea desk has been awesome, although it will probably be too big to get out of my apartment in one piece. The dresser on the other hand is awful, although I suppose the weak particle board drawers are overloaded. Oh well, it was only $100 and will have put in its 2 year duty. Ill get something better when I move into my new place post college

i know a guy over in bel aire. brilliant in his field. oscar nominee back in the eighties. he has me over for lunch ever so often. wish i could say it was to discuss work, or film theory.

but it's mostly because his wife has dragged some piece of ikea furniture home, and i'm the only person he knows who can read the directions.

A ratchet? He needs a drill motor and a hex socket. But he's absolutely right about the usefulness of those tools that ikea sends along.

OMFG...this guy is such a LOSER...

"I can't screw".....yeah baby I bet you can't...you'd have to be able to find 'it' first and after watching you at work I don't think you could do that somehow...

Paul - can you "drop by" and help me clean up my desk now please (just a plane ride; few hours/days to get here; you'll be right)...I just sprayed coffee all over the stuff I was working on and it's all your fault !

Honestly, I can empathise though...we've bought our fair share of Ikea stuff for the kids over the years and sometimes, just sometimes those instruction booklets have driven us mad (and the crappy little allen keys usually go straight in the bin and out comes our toolbox instead).

Ahhh, but not every lady is fortunate enough to be married to a skilled mechanic...but then, you are a skilled mechanic as well. I'm afraid we all have a collection of those little hex keys...not to mention those hand cutting stamped steel wrenches.

I loved his "why can't we buy real furniture?"
